The game is fun and has great graphics. It's a mixture between games like Final Fight (Capcom) and Streets of Rage (Sega).
You can and should upgrade your weapons, costume and skills. It's addictive and there's a grind, pushing you to spend real money to advance. Otherwise it's very difficult.
I already spent some (real) money to buy a special character (space kid) and Coin Doubler, but after a month playing I still can't pass stage 6. Even if you spend more real money you need special suits/w
