User Reviews and Ratings
★★★☆☆ Backwards compatibility
Not sure why S2 is not backwards compatible with S1 but it would be convenient if legacy products were visible in S2 and when you clicked on them it would “launch” the S1 code so everything could be done through one app. Assuming there is no seamless way to control legacy products through the S2 controller.
★★☆☆☆ Connection issues
We have two homes and about 10 Sonos units. We had to download the new app for our one home and have the original app in the other property. It’s incredibly frustrating and there is no support to help with this ongoing issues. I’d also like to upgrade to no ads and this is also difficult and should be simple. Honestly, you are very vulnerable to a competitor and we’ve been supportive for a very long time.
★★★★★ The original Sonos
So much better than the new Sonos it is not even a race.
★★★★★ App sucks
Why? Why, with all the talent in the world can’t you guys make an app that isn’t glitchy and works consistently?
★★★★★ A must for older Sonos equipment

If you have the option for running your system on S1 - DO IT! It is worth the “downgrade” if you accidentally upgraded to S2.
My system of speakers (2016-2020) all work beautifully on S1. On S2, I would get a lot of dropped music, with no clear explanation why. I’m finally happy with my system again!
