User Reviews and Ratings
★★☆☆☆ Broken links
You can browse the preface but the link will be to a different article. A lot of time was wasted
★★☆☆☆ Fix Glitches
Update: landscape mode is back, but now when you co share and play the crossword with others, there are bugs that erase letters when you add the. It only happens to the person that is invited to the game. If you start the game the glitch is not there. Also you can not reveal letters or words if you don’t initiate the game. It making for a terrible co playing experience
★★★☆☆ Why am I paying to see sketchy ads?
I’m a paying subscriber and was surprised to see ads throughout the app. I subscribed expecting a premium, distraction-free reading experience, but the presence of banner and sponsored content undermines that. The journalism itself remains excellent, and the app is generally smooth to use, but the ad experience feels out of step with a paid product.
If ads are going to remain for subscribers, that should be clearly communicated upfront. Ideally, there would be an ad-free tier for paying readers
★★☆☆☆ “Grabby”—hijacks web links
Sometimes I wish to simply read an article on your website, without being shunted off to the app. This does not appear to be possible. Please include a setting (or make it more discoverable if this setting already exists) allowing me to use the web when I want to use the web, and the app when I want to use the app.
★★☆☆☆ Sign in process is onerous
Read all reviews
This is a review of the app, not a review of the content which I have always loved. I was on the fence about whether to subscribe again since it is not inexpensive, but I was immediately turned off by the sign-in process. Also, it doesn’t appear that the archives are available to digital subscribers signed in through this app.
