Fruit Patch App

I’ve been wondering what fruits would grow well in our area and appreciate finding an app that narrows the wide range of choices down. When I look at the nursery catalogs it all looks and sounds good but know from experience that many do not thrive here in the east even though they are rated for our zone.

I live in an urban lot in MD and have wanted to know if it is possible to grow fruit trees in my space. Having said that I am busy and don’t want to spend the hundreds of dollars that landscape designers want to come out and consult for planting options. This app provides clear-cut recommendations that I found easy to follow and well-reasoned. What is supposed utility of this app? I’m a 20 yr gardener and keenly interested in planting fruit trees, pollinators, etc. I’ll save you the time: you pick paw paw or elderberry. Then you have a list of potential pollinators: echinacea yarrow Baptisia etc. You can’t select the plants you choose to make your “patch,” you can’t save the varieties you might be interested in for taste or zone hardiness. I love the idea, but the instant I started creating a patch I was in over my head (I’m a newbie). It’d be nice if the app had a novice mode that explains everything, even more than the app does already, for those who are completely new to this.

I know this may take. Some time so, if you would be so kind as to start with growing zones 8-10+ at least we can make a correlation here in Southern California!!!!
