Third review…. Almost a good job … I’m not sure how fun it is to look up on the internet every other room’s puzzle or where to go and what to do… I made it to level five.. besides the utterly dark landscape, having to look up every step of the way… the monsters all of a sudden become impossible to beat, give me a break! A dungeon crawler should be fun, not this silly nonsense…

Legend if Grimrock takes inspiration from classic dungeon crawlers like Dungeon Master and Eye of the Beholder. The game looks and sounds great, but the gameplay ends up being frustrating, especially on iPad. Instead of innovating on these older games, Grimrock keeps the hectic real-time combat of its predecessors. Combat soon becomes a move-hit-move-hit dance routine whenever you encounter an enemy. If you played the classic Dungeon Master on an Atari ST or Commodore Amiga then you will love this and be right at home. This is essentially the exact same game type. If, however, you are looking for a modern first person RPG, or aren’t really into retro gaming, then there’s a chance you will hate this game. The reviews here all seem to mostly be in those two camps.
