20 Positive User Reviews for Aqua Map Boating
Why Aqua Maps
The biggest issue with electronic maps is the integration of USCG NOTAMS with chart data. Aqua maps accomplishes this seamlessly.
Auto routing?
When will you offer full autorouting like Navionics?
Best navigation tool in the boat!
Now that you have added auto-route creation, I will not be renewing my other apps. Great work and well done!!
It would be a great feature for those of us cruising with a limited bandwidth budget if data updates (charts, ActiveCaptain, USACE, etc)could be made peer-to-peer between devices on the same account. Not only would it be faster and cheaper for customers, it would likely halve your cloud computing costs!
Everything
I have been looking for a Navionics replacement for years and Aqua maps now has everything with the new auto route.
Accurate, Versatile, Easy to Use
We’ve been cruising and living aboard for 6 years, and Aquamap has been indispensable. Big pluses are its ease of use, frequent updates, and integration with other data sources. Highly recommended.
Perfect
The updates provided by this app have made my Garmin my secondary system. Sailed from Dry Tortuga to Bar Harbor and back and won’t go without it. Don’t even know what the price is but I believe I may have been in the first few hundred to buy it when it first came out. Just do it.
AQUA MAP
I used so far iSailor as additional navigation; all of the sudden when entering a depth challenging port in the BAHAMAS it stopped showing my boat on the chart. No way to update; correct etc. So I went to AQUA MAP which I also had as back up. Now researching & focusing on AQUA MAP I realize it has way more options, information than iSailor. I will remove iSailor from ALL my navigation back up devices as unreliable.
good with caveats
overall the app is quite good. developer is good about fixing hiccups. app easy to use. Explorer for Bahamas is nice.
However, recent change: now is subscription to access online satellite. which would be ok if the satellite wasnt years old and not very high resolution.
Great App when you figure it out
Once you get set up this app works great. As a newer user to iOS I find this app not very intuitive. Any problems I’ve had were quickly resolved by email support. The problems were always operator induced, such as not knowing I had to go to the App Store to update the app even though I have “always” set on the update choice. “Always does not mean always, it means always only after you manually update the app in the App Store. Perhaps a simple note “Must update in App Store first.” would help new
Essential for AICW
Aquamaps provides highly visible (bright red) mapping to plan for avoidance of shallow areas. Updates to USACE soundings can be as fresh as 2 weeks prior.
I plan with confidence to continue successful traveling when the seas are rough the outside.
Free Bob423 tracks can be added for additional AICW knowledge for travels between Miami and Norfolk. Great app!
Wonderful app
We use on 4 devices. Our favorite navigation tool.
Value
While driving our boat up the ICW our Simrad chart plotter died. Aqua Map saved our butts. Great app whuch along with Waterway guide made our 1000 mile journey much safer and relaxing. Wont leave port without it.
Download
I have learned that there is a way to control the timing of the tile downloads. If you are getting interrupted by this, there’s a way to adjust the timing of downloads in Sertings, what a great app.!
Kept us safe!!!
I’ve had Aquamap for many years now. Went on a fishing trip off the coast of Block Island last night with my buddies. While the water was flat, we were in THICK fog all night. We used the app to get home in conditions boats loaded with electronics didn’t venture out in. We wouldn’t have made it in otherwise. The currents were moving FAST and pushing the bow all over the place. Being able to plot our heading and make continuous adjustments was critical.
Only thing - and it may just be my phone -
tap and download updates
I am not crazy about how you tap and download updates on the tiles anymore. I prefer the old way.
Better than on-boat plotters
Just like ForeFlight is a modern necessity for flying, this is THE app for boating. Hope it NEVER changes!!
A Top Notch App
I am cruising the Great Loop in sections in a 2012 Ranger Tug R27. The chartplotter on my boat is a legacy Garmin 5212. I use the chart plotter for a radar and sonar display and navigate with Aqua Maps on an iPad Pro 12.9”. For redundancy, I carry two iPad Pros.
Aqua Maps is well thought out and continuous improvements are made. It is easy to use and information is easy to access. Charts are easy to select, download and update.
The developers respond quickly to email support inquiries.

Great Navigation App and Cruising Guide
I use Aqua Map master version extensively for navigation and exploring. The available overlays include the Waterway Guide and Active Captain suggested anchorages, and also the most recent Army Corps of Engineers depth survey info (overlaid on the charts), which is of HUGE help when navigating the Intracoastal Waterway and nearby inlets.

My region map need update
I’m from the Maldives and the Maldivian map was just trash for me. Maybe due to lack of people here using the app. I had to pay $15 to try the map and it gives 14 day free trial but the free trial starts 1 year after you paid for the app. Like if I pay 2025 Jan, the free trial really starts Jan 2026 because it doesn’t refund even if I didn’t like the app. It’s false advertising on that part. Maybe can say “Buy 1 year and get 2 weeks free” that would be more accurate. Hopefully the devs would car
Frustrated
Continually says it can’t properly down load maps. No response from developer
