Great for reviewing before you go out on the water especially for thinking of scenarios. Always best to be on the water but this is great review.
The physics of sailing are well represented in this app. Basic concepts are presented simply. Practice is realistically modeled. Highly recommended! Could have more practice scenarios.
The game is sadly far too limited, especially with an up front cost. Open sailing is particularly disappointing and limited. The sail trim practice is overly sensitive, requiring exact position of the slider without corresponding visual feedback other than speed. There’s not much to learn here because you can’t really tell the sail trim position, especially the differences between similar points of sail. More functionality and better feedback within some of the modules is needed.
Overall the app can be very helpful to learn points of sail and to start to recognize the ripple of a mainsail and when to trim. The open water maps are sadly quite limited. The British Virgian Islands Tour approaches what my expectations were going in. Even after buying the expansions, I have felt like there is something missing. Great game and learning tool! Just please ease up the sensitivity on the second Trimming task (100% under 2 minutes). Also, any additional features or maps would be
This app makes me whole. I’ve never been more satisfied. But dolphin functionality is limited. I also wish there was an option for a 70 ft sailboat and stormy weather. A giant evil whale could be a good addition.
Must download if you’re abeginner or even a skipper who want to brush up on skills
ASA has done a good job putting sailing in to an app. Which is how so many people explore their world these days. As I teach people to sail, I’m interested to see if this is helpful for my students. Would love to see them expand the app to include racing and more advanced techniques! The apparent wind lesson could be improved.
This app is very useful to help visualize sailing concepts that can seem less straightforward in books. It simplifies, and clarifies the learning experience!
Some early challenges don't work. Supposed to click on various parts of the screen to answer questions but the app isn't responding. Must be a bug. Please fix!
Really nice app. Just one comment: the apparent wind direction should change as a boat moves from slow to fast and additional trimming is needed. The app doesn’t seem to simulate that.
About as educational as a phone-based tutorial can get. Maybe some improvements could be made with the interface to make it a little more realistic. Still, not a bad app for the price.
I’m not an experienced sailor, but while this was kind of useful for learning points of sail, a little bit of terminology, and very basic sailing concepts after a few hours at best you will have exhausted it. For 3.99 and in-app purchases to get variable winds or different boats it’s not worth it in my opinion. Save your money to buy a much more realistic sim like eSail if you are really interested in learning solid foundation stuff before you get out on the water or take courses to get a rati
I am learning so much from this app it is not laggy at all I definitely recommend
An incredible app. It is so useful and such a fun way to learn and practice. Get it.
This was recommended to me a few months ago, and I finally got it. Why did I wait so long?!?! This is a wonderful teaching tool and great way to learn all of the complicated aspects of sailing. I already feel better equipped!
While I do think this game is amazing not only at teach the basics of sailing but is also just a downright fun game. I have two thing I would like to see improved. For one I’d like to see the in app purchases gone, I already paid for the app I’m not gonna pay more for basic things like wind variations. Second I’d like to see a first person view option, personally I think it helps with immersion. Which could help with learning
I bought a sailboat this last fall. By spring with the help of this app was able to start sailing with confidence.
This is useful and good mental exercise as well! Fun game and very good for practicing principles of docking, points of sail, maneuvering, and ATONs. Most er, inspiring (I guess you’d say), is the crunching sound just before your boat sinks! Love it although it seems to be bring out the sociopath sailor in me! Calling my therapist now.
Overall, pretty engaging as an instructional app to learn the basics of sailing in tandem with the Asa101 course. One bug in the advanced points of sale module that I wrote the devs about, other than that the graphics are good and UI is intuitive (although being able to choose which side the wheel vs trim controls are located would be cool). Having a sailing race would be a pretty cool future feature. But as is, quite engaging.
So great for learning and playing
Really great for learning and also killing time sailing. My ask would be that more free sailing options be available (as in I’d like to just sail around and experience the scenery rather than hit the required waypoints).
This is the fastest way to learn the fundamentals without a sailboat.
Wish there were open water scenarios
This is an excellent way to keep your skill level up until you can get back on the water.
All I know about sailing is that this app is the truth. This app poses sailing as an experience that can be learned and also enjoyed through the app. Thank you for this app.
As steady as solitaire and more fun.
Love this exercise. Helps me realize my weak points in sailing
My son learnt so much and had fun. I recommend it.
I sailed 30 footers at Channel Islands in California. This would have helped. It’s easy to use.
Just got a small cat sailboat a few weeks ago. This app has really helped!
I was surprised by both the level of complexity and difficulty and also by the sophisticated quality of graphics and the number of real-life variables brought to life. Bravo, ASA!
Very simple and easy app, teaches the basics of wind and trimming.
Love testing have fast I can answer the questions or sail the courses... love, love, love it.
I only give it 4/5 because I’d like see some different sail types included in the app. Most sloops have a jib and rolling that in and out would help improve the experience.
This app does a great job modeling sailboat physics. Very useful.
Just bought a 33 Morgan Outlander as very 1st sailboat. While sims don't match hands on, I now have an idea of how my sails should fly. Great app to assist in the whole sailing process.
This app is a great way to practice the mental side of sailing. Running through the various drills helps make concepts like points of sail or correct sail trim become second nature. It would be nice to have a man overboard drill in here!
Before you can become a better sailor, you have to know the language of sailing. This app is a helpful tool. Certainly better to learn the terminology in your idle time onshore than once you’re already underway.
My husband and both took the basic sailing class after we bought our boat. As I do most of the steering, the challenges are a great way for me to practice when we’re off the water. Also it’s a lot of fun to intentionally “crash”
Please make font size slightly larger so it is readable on the phone screen. For example: font size showing boat/true/apparent wind speed in apparent wind exercise is unnecessary small.
I consider myself a sailing enthusiast, but was a little bit rusty. It’s app lets me practice and learn all without having to schedule time with an instructor to learn the basics. Love this app!
Great for learning basic lingo and etiquette. Ideal for veggie ramen and someone interested in sailing
Great app, but I’d really like to see a module teaching and testing all the names/terms for the different parts of the sail, boat, etc.
The app allows you to better understand points of sail and sail trimming to reinforce what you learn on the boat. Well done!

Port (red) is on your left , standing in the boat facing towards the bow, and starboard (green) is on the right.. this game has port on the right, and starboard on the left
