24 Positive User Reviews for Blue Iris

Why charge for the app???

I like the system, but if we’re already paying for the software, why must each user pay another $9 for the app? Feels like a bit of a money grab. Take a note from UniFi - their app is free.

Pretty good so far

Running with BI app on an iPhone 15 and BI on an i7 desktop to view 3 IP cameras at 20 fps and relatively high resolution. Somewhat complicated for beginners. Wish I knew how to change the push notification sound. Also curious about needing to pay the yearly update charge for BI.

Antiquated UI but gets the job done

The UI is antiquated and the app could use a refresh (though supposedly this is coming soon with BI 6?), but the app is reliable and gets the job done. I’ve found it to be very stable and am able to key in on cameras quickly when I receive an alert. Full disclosure, I use HA to send alerts to my devices and use the app solely for monitoring (not alerts) - easier when you have a lot of devices that you want alerts sent to to but only want to pay for the app on one or two devices

Video saved to iOS no longer working

Great app to monitor Blue Iris installations and formerly a perfect app. However with recent versions, and BI 5.x, I can longer save camera video clips to iOS cameras roll - this used to work without issue on BI 4.x so I deducted 2 stars. Two other suggestions: 1) Please allow app to initiate iOS VPN connection. 2) Please port to AppleTV - I would gladly pay for an AppleTV version of this app. Thanks for a great app!

Feels like someone’s side project

The app is mostly useable with some bugs, but it just feels outdated or neglected. I paid for the App expecting a better experience than the web UI and the only advantage for me is push notifications in the App, when they work. I mostly use the web UI with different notifications now and regret buying the App.

Must Have App

If you run Blue Iris desktop this is a no brainier purchase. I have been using it since the initial release and the developer remains dedicated to customer satisfaction. I use this app daily and It has become the primary app for viewing my IP cameras. You will not be disappointed! NOTE: You do have to run Blue Iris desktop on your PC in order to use this app.

Fixed for iOS 17

Fixed the following issue: Loud click sound when you access cameras. Was working fine on iOS 16.

Works Great

Seen some negative reviews on here, but gotta say the Blue Iris IOS app has worked great for me. The only issue I’ve had is alerts seem inconsistent on some of my cameras, but that may be from not having them configured correctly. Otherwise, the app is reliable, responsive, and very intuitive to use. Worth the $$$ and much cheaper in the long run than what most smart cameras charge for monthly cloud access.

Solid

This is a solid app. Haven’t had issues with it and I’ve used a lot of different camera software now at this point. Please please please add Picture-in-Picture support so I can keep an eye on a camera while multitasking

Worked for a while

Worked well for a couple of years Then nothing it won’t let me log in just goes to home app page Fine if it was a free app but it’s not

Great when it works

I have only been able to get it to work remotely once, then it stopped. There is intermittent connectivity between the client and the server on my LAN. It works for a couple of days then it will won’t connect. Very frustrating.

Works but major bugs not addressed

I am seeing a crash when you save a snapshot and then click done. It’s 100% reproducible. Similar issues in saving video clips. Cameras hidden in the main app do still show up on mobile

Delete all alerts problem

Every time I delete all alerts, the badge on the icon stays until I restart the the app. I notice if I use the mark as viewed menu then delete all alerts, the badge disappears instantly. Please fix so the badge disappears as soon as you select delete all alerts Thank you

Crash or disconnects

Now it crashes whenever rotating video on phone

Essential part if the Blue Iris experience.

The functionality and capability of Blue Iris server is amazing. I have spent countless hours configuring, fine tuning, and troubleshooting my setup. After all of that, I can’t recall any major problems with the server software or this mobile app.

Pretty good

This application has plenty of good features. Starting with excellent reliability, the app can stay on running in an iPad for a week without crashing. from the layout manager one can run off titles and fill the screen with cameras. Continuous recording are very navigatable. One can even see Alerts by camera or all together but only for a day or so.

Add Feature.

App runs great, but honestly nothing beats the web gui version, I’m asking the developer if it’s possible to add the timeline feature with the trigger markings to make video searching easier on the mobile and iPad app, also can you guys add the auto patrol function at least to the iPad version? These features will put this app on par or even better than the big name companies, google etc.

Excellent

Works great, been using the app about a month or so, and you can tell the developer has put a lot of work into this app.

Works but could allow configuration

It works. That is good. Wouldn’t mind the ability to create different levels of access for users and be able to configure everything that I can on the windows program itself, so I never have to open that again.

Best surveillance system ever had!

Been running this for years now and it’s solid 100%. Very reliable never had any issues, it’s always there when I need it to be. Ran sever up to 3 months solid with no restarts and still reliable. One option to consider adding would be Picture in Picture mode on iOS to keep a selected camera open over other apps. Thanks for such a great app!

Not reliable

I have setup blue iris on an old iPad that is always on to show my cameras. Problem is, Blue Iris will randomly crashes about once a day and then my family has to keep restarting it.

Push notifications require subscription

Push notifications only work if you have purchased the desktop app AND have an extended support subscription.

Needs a serious update

I’ll say it’s a good app. But it needs to be updated. This is a surveillance app and it’s hard to scrub through footage. Its main purpose should be easily look through camera feeds and history. It needs a complete redesign.

Developer won’t fix it

Had an issue with this having almost 100gigs of data. Emailed developer. Ya it’s a know issue. Almost two years later no fix. Poor apps and support. App is 10 years old and outdated.
