The Developer has been updating this app pretty frequently lately. But the fact that the updates are to “fix bugs” and “improve stability” sounds fishy to me. The app works very well as it is, so why mess with it? Only one answer fits this scenario: The Developer is slowly preparing this app to be used ONLY on a subscription basis.
