For a 1.4 MB app very strong!! Of course stockfish and other engines are stronger but for the average under 2300 players is perfect for practicing. Love it!! Amazing work for the creator Wish it was updated so it could take advantage of iOS file app features to easy transfer and access files instead of iTunes very slow and annoying Highly recommend it to u2200 players who need a sparring partner to practice or learn new opening lines

A long time and loyal Richard Lang fan. The author will be in the chess programmers Hal of Fame if they ever create one. His chess programs dominated the chess programming world in the late 80's and early 90's. All the best Richard! Ps one of the few chess apps that display the board/menu correctly while using hotspot.

Chess Genius is a great app. On my iPhone 6s when playing strength is set to "instant" and permanent brain off, CG beats Hiarcs set to 2300 on my iPad Air 2. One area of improvement might be to adjust the playing level options or dynamically adapt the level descriptions to the power of the CPU/GPU because the first level after easy is now master on the latest iPhone. Thanks for all the hours of chess fun and learning.

There are a lot of options for chess engines. The icons for the pieces need an upgrade here. I found only one of six appealing. Two have lo res graphics, which is unacceptable for a premium priced app. One set is ugly, and the Russian set is two shades of grey, without enough contrast. The list of captured pieces is nice, and surprisingly missing from a lot of other apps.

Really quite amazing. The levels of expertise are well crafted. Implementation is robust. And friendly. And intuitive. 5 stars!

Very nice features. Very good play. NOT beginner friendly. Lower levels are quite difficult.

I'm about 1800 level, play about even with caissa chess. This program just ripped me to shreds with ease. Graphics could be a bit crisper, but 10 bucks is worth it for the sheer power of the engine even if you already have caissa. Wow.

I bought the ipod for music storage and chess. This is hands down the strongest and best chess program for the iPod so far.

Best chess game I have played. Hints/bad moves/take backs/etc make this a very challenging app.

I had this app on Windows Mobile. I had forgotten how hard is to play because the engine is so good. The hint button is well positioned in the main screen, although you won't win by following hints alone. Glad to have this app now on my iPhone

This game is the best chess I have played offline! Only problem is the price of this app. Iwould give it a 2/5 if I could rate the price. I hate how people rate based on price and app. There should be a separate rating scale.

By far the best chess game I've ever played. I've had this game with my old PDA. It is almost impossible to beat. I've done it once and must have played hundreds of games. The best I can usually achieve is a stalemate.

If this app could rate my play level it would be perfect. Otherwise, it is five stars only because they don't give 6 stars as an option. Best chess app on a mobile platform, period. Worth the money and I am very frugle.

This is the best I've got. If something comes up that is better than this one I'll be very surprised. The easy levels are fun to play with and play with fewer errors than previous Genius programs. This one beats or equals anything.

Love this app and play against it every day. An excellent learning tool to have on your phone.

Gameplay strength improvements and iphone 5 screen utilization.. Not as strong as stockfish or hiarcs and rareky updates.

Hands down the best chess related thing you can have on your phone. When used thoughtfully this is a powerful learning tool that world champions would kill for back in the day. A must purchase for chess enthusiasts.
