Dict.cc is the dictionary site my university recommended and it's the most comprehensive by far, including lots of hard to translate idioms as well as obscure terms. This is a perfectly fine app for it. If this didn't exist I might have tried to make it myself -- other apps have ~10mb dictionaries, but with this one you can download a 250mb one that has literally every word I can think of. Badonkadonk, Sitzpinkler, velocipede -- I just tried these three obscure and slang terms and all showed up.
If you want access to the widest range of English-German translations, this has got to be your go-to app! It's crowd-based, thus constantly updated and its number of entries grows every day. I love the ease of use and use this applications pretty much daily. The new "inflections" section is awesome. Thanks to the developers!
I have been using this dictionary (German-English) for several years now. I’ve found that it’s the best one out there for unusual words, technical and scientific terms, old fashioned words, etc that many other dictionaries do not cover. Been using the paid version for quite a while now because I like the offline functionality. It is the one I recommend to other peope who use German for work or speak it as a second language.
I began a lifelong study of German in 1962 and have used every brand of dictionary, but, obviously, nothing ever approached DICT in ease or thoroughness. I have the full off-line dictionary and am always amazed at how easily I can find a definition and can cross reference words to get at the shades of meanings of words. I have used DICT for years now and greatly appreciate how it has continued to develop.
I've seen many Ger-Eng dictionaries and this one beats them all. Native pronounces, many collocations and idioms, responsive developer, many word lists which can be uploaded from dict.cc to your iOS app, and many good features undiscovered for me still after using it daily. However, recently I can’t open it! It just shows a blank screen. The problem happened after I searched c/o in this app!!
It’s been a huge help learning languages. Has a good feature set. Not pushy at all about ads or upgrades. You actually want to support the developer and development. Only ask I have at the moment is for Ukrainian language to be added.
I’ve been using dict.cc for years and I continue to appreciate this wonderful resource - it has been on my home screen the entire time. The vocabulary trainer feature for me has been really awesome, especially the stacks with spaced repetition.
I’ve been using the site for years. It’s my number one dictionary goto! Glad to see they have an app. I instantly bought the pro version @ $9 it’s a steal? Thanks for all the great work and quality product. Cheers! ✌️
Love this site and it's app! I use it all the time for school and even when I'm having a conversation and can't remember a word!
This app is a great help for surviving in Germany :) It is pretty fast and the DB has a lot of words. But is a bit overpriced. It has been very helpful in my German classes, as it is faster than a paper dictionary.
Not bad. The only thing it needs is a way for it to say the word. Like if I click on the French word. It should say it out loud. Would be a big help! Sweet they updated what I asked. Perfect app would highly recommend!
I have been using dict.cc for years, and this app is just as good as the web service. The outstanding feature are the offline dictionaries of course - finding a word shouldn't b dependent on my carrier's coverage in a given area
Can't wait for the Arabic-English version to come out.
It runs fast with no bugs, it has a expansive database, and is easy to use. Since it downloads the each language, you don't even need to be on wi-fi to use it! Best German dictionary app out there.
Has words my other German dictionaries don't - especially slang. Would be nice if you added Slovene to your database - that would get you five stars.
Once the app is loaded the definitions are near instant. I love the vast database and offline use. I bought the plus version mainly to support the site. I look forward to the upcoming iOS7 look.
Wouldn't know what to do without it.
As a newcomer to the German language, this app provides me with accurate spellings and pronunciations and I would reccomend this app to anyone else learning German. Das ist spitze!
I have tried many German/English Dictionaries, but this one is by far the best.
Clean, utilitarian interface. Contains many expressions, phrases, idioms, etc. Downloadable dictionaries for offline viewing. The best dictionary app for German.
I've purchased and tried many for German, but this one is the best overall. Only wish? To be able to export the vocabulary list you've created.
Marvellous app. Fast, comprehensive.
Now that they have added inflections, it is even more useful! I am a 4th year college German student and i have it open whenever I am reading or writing in German . Just wish I could download it my brain.
I use this app everyday now for many years. Easy and comprehensive. I like the voice look up too.
