8 Positive User Reviews for Genasys Protect

Clunky app

Our sheriffs department told us to use this app, but my confidence is not very high based on what I see after installing it. It is not designed for mobile phones, is not user-friendly, and it does not give much information to the user to explain exactly how this is going to work.

Worked really well for local evacuation maps this week

Works great!

I have had zero issues with this app whatsoever.

5 Negative User Reviews for Genasys Protect

Lost location

This app was recommended by our county OES. We are in wildfire season and have a fire within 2 miles of where we live. Genasys keeps losing my location saying “No user position found. Enable location services.” Despite the fact location is set to always and precise. This has happened several times. Every time I have to delete the app, reinstall, and then it works fine for a while.

Misinformation

We are in the middle of a Hazmat situation in our town. Everyone kept saying to get this app for the most up-to-date information about the situation. We have gotten nothing but misinformation from the app. I just got an alert telling me to evacuate yet I am not in the evacuation area, and nothing has changed. Then it switched my address to an address that is in the evacuation area. I got out of the app and got back in, and it then had my correct address, and started alerting me to evacuate. I ca

Battery Hog

I noticed my iPhone 14 pro battery draining quickly after installing this app. It was accounting for 75% of battery usage. It appears to be doing something in the background about once every minute. Bye bye Genasys!

GUI Prevents iPad Setup

Updated 2025-01-23: App works well on iPhone, but initial setup screen is so large that “Start” button is inaccessible to an iPad user!

Not very useful

The App updates only the very specific zone(s) of cities that you select. That means a zone two blocks from your house could go under mandatory evacuation, but your zone will show no updates and you’ll get no alert. Why don’t they update with warnings at the city level? I would not my life on this app.
