I wish it’s better
It’s a good study tool when textbook is not being around, but I would expect more as an app with additional cost.
1. Aggregated list of all the sentences given in this app for practice the vocabulary in listening.
2. Store the study process from the last session.
3. A better way to check, other than the self-answering on whether feeling confident about the vocabulary.
New Update Is Buggy (FIXED)
UPDATE: App no longer crashes when attempting to do Study or Check.
Can no longer complete studies and checks as reaching the final card/word crashes the entire app.
Better than making your own Anki
This is app is good for what it does: a way for you to save time from making your own Anki or flash cards. Because honestly - if you made your own Anki, it’ll be the same vocab. This app at least saves you time from making the vocab that’s already on here. So if you save time studying or making an Anki deck without vocabs from here.
Problems with sound
Great app, should be 5 stars — but the sound function (crucial for me) only works sometimes. Sound cuts out, and restarting or redownloading app makes no difference. Then sound might reappear for awhile…then go away. If this bug was fixed — 5 stars !
UPDATE: the sound works, as long as you keep the phone’s “silent mode” button OFF. This is not intuitive, and should be made clear in the app…!!!
Worth it
This has increased my learning speed dramatically. I take an online class at college but use this app to memorize vocabulary before lessons. Now I can actually focus in class because I’m not lost and wasting time looking up words in the textbook.
Also, it’s easy for me to know which words I struggle with and then I can practice those words more efficiently.
Good but could be better
That app needs animations for kanji to show the correct stroke order.
Barely usable
I love the idea and content of the app, but unfortunately it is not well maintained. It’s broken in different ways on my iPhone and iPad.
glitches
has a lot of glitches that make it hard to navigate the app
One this Missing for me
The only thing missing to me is a spaced repetition function. It be easier to keep track of the things I need to study again.
Additional vocabulary missing
I gave it four stars because the additional vocabulary is missing (or I can’t find it).
Yes there are sentence examples and sound
Just a note—Some of the reviews state the app (3rd addition) no longer has sentence examples, but it still does. You just have to click the caret (upward arrow) at the bottom of each study card to switch to the full sentence. The examples are shown in English & Japanese with Japanese audio for the whole sentence.
No Sound
Using this app on an iPhone 8 for supplemental studying for my 日本語 class. Cool idea if the sound worked.
Update: found a reviewer that mentioned that your silence button has to be off for the sound to work. Now that the sound works, it’s a great app.
Good Vocab Practice
I gave it a 4 because it took me forever to figure out how the audio worked. Make sure you are on Ringer Mode. If your phone is on silent the audio does not work. Other than that it helps with practicing basic Vocab.
Helpful and easy to use
This app is very helpful for studying along with the text book, and I have my flash cards wherever I go. I use an iPhone 11 and haven’t had any issues with the sound so far.
Great Product (Audio Works…atm)
Good app, nice to have the official audio and graphics, but you can get the same from a community Anki deck. Not worth the $6 price tag if you have access to Anki.

Buggy and in some cases incorrect
Sometimes the sound doesn't work, which is annoying. Worse, I've seen some words where the pronunciation is completely wrong, which is terrible for a student trying to learn.
Buggy
App is currently bugged to where if you swipe down to see the example sentence, majority of the time it kicks back to the vocab word.
No ability to Review
After you mark a word as “known” you have no ability to review it as a flashcard. You can only browse to it from a long list of all words… meaning you can’t practice and you’ll forget older lessons… the app is also a big buggy.
Should honestly be a free app included with the books. Do yourself a favor and get Anki instead of this.
