Haaretz English Edition App Reviews

I have been a subscriber for a long time. Lately I started noticing adds that appeared whenever I read an article. This is a relatively new finding. They are quite bothersome and they should not be sent to subscribers.

Haaretz is a bold and crucial voice of journalism and free speech, but the app itself has become very annoying. Although I pay (a lot) to subscribe, I have to view an annoying ad covering everything each time I open the app. It’s often hard to figure out how to dismiss the ad. This is a bad way to treat your subscribers.

As a centrist, I like to read views on both sides. While this definitely leans left, I think they do so fairly. Easy to navigate app.

I subscribe to Ha’aretz mainly to read the brilliant articles written by the great, the humane, the ELOQUENT, Gideon Levy. Yes, I am proud to call Mr. Levy a friend, and, I am thrilled that Ha’aretz sees that he is an INTERNATIONAL TREASURE! May God bless Gideon Levy and his loved ones and may God protect Ha’aretz!

I am a proud Palestinian in diaspora. I find this news source to be a rare honest and factual source of news about the occupied Palestinian land, otherwise known as Israel. Western news outlets do not even try to hide their lies about Palestine, Haaretz shines through those dark times. It is, however, very disappointing that it requires a subscriptions I will get this news source from Apple News instead of paying a hefty subscription fee. I subscribe because I think Haaretz does excellent reporting, but I can’t get the app to work on my phone. The overlay ads are impossible to close because the “x” button lies outside my small screen.

Paid subscriptions to this paper don’t guarantee you can read it. The app is a problem. It is impossible to read an article from start to finish without pop up ads blocking news content.

App version 5.90 (May 2025) navigating back from wherever you are (article, menu, sub-menu, reading list, etc.) navigating you double back. It makes it a super bad experience. Such an obvious and easy to detect bug shouldn’t have made it into production. Please improve your app quality.
