lire: RSS Reader App Reviews

Since iOS 26 on the iPad the screen turns black when looking at RSS feed articles (e.g. MacRumors). I have to minimize and then re-open app to see the article. Hopefully you can recreate and fix it in iOS 26?

lire is one of the snappiest and best designed apps I’ve used on iOS in a long time. It’s an absolute joy to use! I’m taking my switch to lire as an opportunity to drop Feedbin and switch to iCloud for syncing. The only thing I miss so far is the ability to automatically mark some items as read based on filters. Other than this, lire has everything you could want in an RSS app, plus a beautiful design to boot!

Great looking app with lots of features. Unfortunately it freezes while syncing a couple times a week and never recovers, so I have to force close the app occasionally. Also I wish the pull to refresh gesture required a bit less of a pull. Compared to Reeder, I just find myself not pulling far enough, I guess.

The new interface is awful. The old version was much cleaner and easier to navigate. Now that this has been updated for ios26, it’s a mess and the old version is no longer functional at all. Fortunately I have an older iPad with iOS 18.7 where the older version still works well and is easy to use. For this app alone, I may not ever update the older iPad. Sad.

This is a wonderful app, works great and allows you to go through your news items quickly and easily. The developer is active and responsive.

Title says it all. Lire does what many rss readers try to do (get full article contents) but can’t. It’s not an easy problem to solve, and it probably is a constant moving target for a dev, but this dev pulls it off. Can’t believe what good value this is, I’ve used it for at least a year now. Also with the opening of apples Foundation models it can do article summaries, and you can customize the prompt. Very handy for saving time. This is one of the best RSS readers in iOS. Small improvement for me would be a one tap button to switch between “Full text view” and “Feed item view” only in the current feed while keeping the main view mode intact. Currently if you switch to a new view mode it will persist for the following feeds too. I like to open feeds in “Feed item view” and if i need to get to more content by only one tap I could get the full content just for that feed.

Lire was my pick in the middle of 2025 when I needed a new RSS reader. I had been swapping Reeder 5 and then the new Reeder throughout 2024-2025 and neither really fit my needs. Lire looked elegant and had most of the features I wanted without a subscription. However, this thing is a storage space hog and takes forever to sync. I opened the app today (Dec 3) to find that it had reverted back to September 2025 articles. I can’t do anything in the app until it finishes syncing and can’t see if it’

This is an awesome rss app, better then reeder which I have used for a decade.

I’ve tried several RSS readers over the years and most of the popular ones included. They’ve all mostly either been missing features, subscriptions based or had performance problems fetching feeds. Lire gets it right and for a reasonable one-time price. The app is visually appealing and it’s functionality is superb. It syncs well with its MAC counterpart as well.

I use this to connect to my FreshRSS server and it works flawlessly. It’s worth the $10.

When you pull down to refresh in frontpage or rss page the app will become laggy please fix it

lire is my favorite rss application, but I have not been able to experience all the features of lire due to the language barrier. Finally in the recent update, lire finally supports simplified Chinese, very excited and happy. Thanks to the author for his efforts! Must be 5 stars 👍, wish the better!

I live in a rural area with weak cell service. When the power goes out we’re totally offline. Automatic Full-text caching is the feature that sold me on this app. Everything works well and is quick and smooth. Nice UI and intuitive controls. I also appreciate the Standalone option, lack of data collection, and no need for a subscription! You can organize and read everything in this beautiful app. Also, no subscriptions! What else can you ask for? Well, I got one thing. I really wish we could share articles that we find online so we can read it in the app.

storage use is way off again. Iphone says 82GB used instead of a few hundred megs. expoorting/importing opml works fine for a rest reset, but theres no saved post export/ import. five stars if you add that

Edit: The developer contacted me and we discovered the issue. The app is functional for me now, and hopefully gets updated to account for what was going on. Claims to support newsblur. It doesn’t. Only getting sync errors.

Great job! Really well made app, I decided to replace Reeder with this app and so far it’s going great! Love the three column layout on iPadOS love the custom URL actions. Specially love the fact that it’s not a subscription! Thank you!!

This is my go-to app for RSS feeds. It has a clean highly customizable interface you can modify if suite your reading needs perfectly. Full text extraction is excellent. You should definitely give this a try!

I’m really glad I purchased this rss reader. It works great and well worth the extra costs. I also bought other ones in the top 50 in the App Store and LIRE works the best.

Decent app overall, but there are a couple of issues that prevent me from recommending it. I have >100 feeds and get constant iCloud sync errors. Even when I don’t get the yellow error banner I still notice articles on my iPad that I read earlier in the day on my iPhone. Also, the background sync has never worked for me as far as I can tell. I got this to replace Reeder but I’m having issues with constant crashing. Every time I open the app, it crashes. It can’t keep articles in memory and when I switch back from another app it crashes, I change a setting… it crashes. It’s annoying for such a well appointed RSS app. I hope the crashes are fixed so I can 5 star it.
