Best app for original game music imo. Huge database. Devs are responsive for support. Only real concern I had was I’d like a crossfade feature. Excited to see how this grows.
Everything is mono audio. But good app nonetheless.
I wanted to write a new review on this as so much development has happened over that time. This is by far the best app I’ve tried for playing VGM, SPC, NSF, and mod files. I’ve tried multiple apps, but I’m consistently coming back to this one. With countless options for the emulation fans and a huge file extension support, it’s by far my go to when listening to emulated music on the go.
I love this player, its my default means for listening to VGM. However, the recent update bugged FLAC playback. Most of my library consists of FLAC, and the JoshW SegaCD Archive also mostly consists of FLAC. If this could be patched soon, that’d be really great!
When playing songs in favorites, it eventually gets 'stuck' and decides to start playing songs from an entire album, songs not in the favorites. It'll be cycling thru all my songs, then say when a song I selected as a favorite from Super Mario Bros for SNES comes on, it'll begin to play the entire Super Mario Bros soundtrack, even though I didn't select the rest of the songs. REALLY APPRECIATE THAT THIS APP IS STILL BEING TAKEN CARE OF! THANK YOU!!😅🙏♾
I love the addition of NSFPlay but I request two more things be added to the engine, can the volume be reduced? I want to see the oscilloscope views fully without the waves clipping from being too loud. Also, it does not work with endless NSFes because it will fade out on them. Can there be an option to switch it to endless where it doesn’t fade out? (Edit: the new update that was supposed to add infinite playback to NSFplay, but I cannot find the option to do so.) (Edit 2 for 6/4/2024, for infi
When I switched from PureModPlay to Modizer, it felt like a whole new world; oscilloscope views, pattern views, many visualizers, lots of files supported, etc… I’d give the app 5 stars, if it weren’t for the battery problem. Every night I put my phone down, I would sleep, and then this app would get stuck on a song. I don’t know why this is happening but now, I have to deduct 2 stars. Maybe if this is fixed, I will give it 5 stars.
I asked ChatGPT the best way to play chip tunes on my iPhone and it led me to this app. Best two bucks I’ve ever spent!
Well worth picking up, just wish it would play the next song instead of forcing you to select tracks manually. Also would love to see APE support at some point, for now I use Foobar2k. A couple other unsupported formats I’ve found on JoshW are TAD, TAK, and WIC. Thx again for an amazing app!
My playlist doesn't refresh after deleting many songs via iPhone's iOS v18.7.2's Files app.
This is the only player of SEGA MD and Nintendo NES music that shows note! Can't find anything for PC or iOS that has that capability! That itself deserves 5 stars!
Can’t rotate to landscape on any of my devices while FX are showing. It will crash instead. Sometimes the Initializing period is infinite. That’s all my problems with the app. This happens on: iPhone 4s iPhone Xr iPad 5th gen iPad Air 5th gen
The best solution if you want to listen to mods and other tracker formats. Honestly, this earns 5 stars from me purely for the fact this supports .hip files, very nice!
I’m an nes chiptune composer, this app makes it possible for me to play NSF sound files on my IOS device. It’s a super helpful tool for me to listen to my work on the go
Everything is mono audio. But good app nonetheless.
I only knew Jogeir Liljedahl's albums, but this app was still awesome. If you have any interest in chip tune, get this. And get Jogeir's work as well.
This software works as expected. It will play any file type I throw at it. I like the visualizations.
The interface is sort of bad, but everything else is amazing. It can play all the music you'd want it to, and it plays well. It even helps you find the music you want. Worth the price ten times over. A must have for any retro music fan.
I tried a lot of midi players and they all had problems (wouldn't play the whole midi, or couldn't download from a website, or just no sound) but this one works great and is super easy to use. Love it!!
Just wish it could do some other common formats like USF and 2SF.
Wow! It even has support for VRC6, VRC7, and the like! Not to mention mod, and all those other tracker files and also midi and wow. So much more too! A must have for people interested in this field of music.
So happy to have found this! Brings back oooold memories :)
I can't get enough of this. Unreal II, Drift, Space Debris, 2nd Reality, Stories Never End -- what a great app.
I've used this for a while, has amazing visuals, and lots of tracker files you can play. Chiptune music lovers should most definitely buy this app!
It crashes every time I try to play a PlayStation sound formats. that's too compressed either and 7zip the Standard zip.
Still my go to app for VGM music but since a lot of the tracks I listen to are mostly PSF/PSF2 the app is partially broken but I love that it's finally been adapted to the screen resolution off e iPhone 6+
This is an amazing music player. I think you should be able to swap out the soundfont for midis and be able to add instrument overrides. Otherwise, this app works really well if you want to listen to raw music files.
This app let's you play all sorts of audio formats! MIDI, nintendo, SID, you name it!
This is perhaps the one reason ensuring I never leave iOS. Love it, live it. Vive la France!
Never seen anything like it. I mostly just play nsfe’s but there are quite a few features. Also worth it for the demoscene stuff.
This wouldn't happen in the past version. Please take a look at it.
Great player for old 8bit soundtracks, I would like to see the keyboard visualizer work for .nsf .gba files and such. I enjoy my purchase though.
This app is great! I can now skip tracks with my car's SYNC steering wheel! SNES and Sega Genesis sound great on this update.
Always nice to see a new update.
This is probably hands down the best module player on iOS. There are a few problems with a few tracks, such as arkanoid.sid crashing the app, and some adlib tracks sound... off. HOWEVER, it handles most modules fine.
The app ships with megabytes of great tracks, and shortcuts to major tracker archives. I would have no idea how to find these tracks otherwise. Still finding more great tunes. I wish this app were available on other platforms.
All your favorite chiptune video game soundtracks are here. Great little app that I use all the time.
the only issue I don’t really enjoy so far is the looping feature needs a fix sometime
Love the app, definitely worth it, would love to see background audio ( the ability for the app to keep playing when not in the Forefront.) also perhaps an auv3 version or Audiobus support.
It would be even more amazing if I could switch from the 8580 chip to the 6581 and vice verse because I also like how the 6581 sounds on certain songs. Can you put that in? :)
Its a great app, but seriously in need of an update. 3 stars till then.
This is incredible and has online browsing support and plays everything under the sun! Wow! The visualizations are dope! WELL DONE!!@
