I appreciate such an important app and the notifications seem to be getting earlier and give me more warning every time. And the alarm does a good job helping me lock into safety mode
It seems Israel is not listed on the MyShake app and I’m a bit confused as to why that may be? I see lots of little countries listed, but I would like to keep an eye out on Israel. Please let me know the reason. Thank you. Also, several Earthquakes that have hit region recently is not immediately located on the map and we have to wait for a bit to show up.
I used this app a lot there are lots of earth quakes in ca and it just told me fasted than google I love this app
I love MyShake
The app actually worked. I had forgotten that I installed the app. Tonight it sent me notification that there is an earthquake. Less than a minute later there was actually an earthquake. It sent another warning a few minutes later and about a minute after there was an after shock. Although 45-60 seconds doesn’t seem like much time but it provided enough information to quickly decide if I need to take cover or not.
The app is good, it’s just that I feel that you should be able to adjust the minimum magnitude for the alerts, because in my city we get earthquakes below 4.5 that are sometimes very strong, and get no alert for it. So that’s why I think you should be able to put the minimum magnitude on the alerts
Easy to change parameters for alerts. Reasonably good UI. We weren’t disturbed by an error alert in the middle of the night because we don’t keep our phones in our bedroom. Better than several of the alternatives in the App Store. Experienced an short earthquake today and the app alerted within a second of feeling the jolt. Of course it would be better to get the alert a few seconds before.
Today I was hanging out with the family watching movies as hurricane Hillary was passing by OC with heavy rain and winds, when all of a sudden I got an alert in my apple watch from an app I’ve never heard/seen before, so it caught my attention right away and it was something like “brace yourself, earthquake with Ventura epicenter” type of alert, and as I was telling my fam about it we then started to feel the ground moving! That was an amazing to experience, having a heads up could make a big
I recently downloaded this app when prepping an earthquake kit. Yesterday was tropical storm Hilary in SoCal and this app notified me a good 10 seconds before the earthquake hit and gave me enough time to get to safety and text a friend before I felt it. I received the “amber alert” on my phone from the city basically as the earthquake hit. This app gave me valuable time, and much sooner than the city/state was able to.
I received a MyShake alert on 8/20, 30 seconds before I felt the Ventura earthquake in the Los Angeles area.
Herbed ca 4/29 approx 5:07am Crashes when I try to file a report
The app alerted for an earthquake and It was far so I didn’t even feel it! but this system is like japans early warning system!
I’m really surprised that even though I’ve set MyShake to log 3.5 & higher, it entirely missed the 4.5 EQ near Hollister 2 days ago… the logging functionality seems to be getting worse and worse as time goes on… additionally, the notification feature appears to be very hit-or-miss; we received notification of an EQ in the Sierras more than 150 miles from here yet, closer EQs in the North Bay Area never seem to trigger the alert notification, even though I’ve correctly configured the app and allo
The lithosphere is nuts.
MyShake woke up everyone in the Bay Area at 2:30 am for an earthquake that was 6 hours north of us. We didn’t feel the earthquake, but we sure were woken up with a jolt by the app. I’m giving it 3 stars because when there is an earthquake near us it sure will wake us all up. But waking people up 100s of miles away from an earthquake epicenter in the middle of the night was infuriating.
Please make this app available for iWatch. Many people don’t have phone with them at all times, such as at gym. Watches are often worn all the time, even in shower, etc. would probably be very useful to make this available for the iWatch. Thank you
You need to show “all” quakes!!!!! Just south of half moon bay we had a 2.8 plus and it did not even show!!!??? Please adjust!!!
The bug is still there, I think, it crashes when we hit next after entering our home base. Oh I downloaded iOS 16 this week. Could this be the problem?
Let users choose a magnitude threshold for receiving a notification, with the default of whatever you think is best, but a slider to change from the default. Then everyone can be happy receiving as many or few notifications as they like.
This is a very good and thought through app, it is very informative and works great!
The problem I have is that it doesn’t give me a push notification that a mag 6 quake has occurred somewhere on this planet. Not that I want to know but I do have that setting enabled….
September 17, 2021 the city of Carson was hit with a Mag. 4.3 and I got the alert with in 3 seconds, could have been more time to spare but still close to the epicenter.
it is a good app and works well its just the alerts dont work even though the notifications and settings are set to where i want it but ever since the 3.9 quake in san lorenzo and i didnt get the warning i was confused why the app didnt work
The warning is only a voice saying earthquake, which it is easy to sleep through. Is it possible to make the phone sound an alarm like a WEA alarm or make a selected sound? The warning is a great thing, but only if you hear it!
Works great for the phone but iPads show an server error when adding a new location.
This is a great service for safety and very interesting to browse global earthquake data. However it consumes much too much power when running in the background.
Just downloaded app, how do I get the State of Alaska to get in on this warning system???
The default location is “global”. I am unable to add my specific location for notifications. “Sorry, we are unable to process your change”
Hello, your App is not updating. When my phone is trying to update it, it’s just circling and stuck. All other Apps update fine.
I love this app. A few months ago there was an earthquake we had to find a shelter after it happened the government told us to download this app I am so happy I have this app!
Alerted me seconds before quake in Nor Cal and heard numerous other people who received same alert.
I wish I could keep this App on my iPhone as a support of the heroic effort that could one day save us from earthquakes. However, the recent update of this App sucked away most of the energy in my battery that I have no choice but delete it.
Very thorough and comprehensive. Very interesting to see what is going on all over the world. Very easy to use
This app was totally asleep at the wheel just now ! We had a 4.8 EQ in east LA, 9/18/2020 11:40pmish and the sensors are silent - “No earthquake detected” when I try to ping the shaking I felt. What?! Corona Virus take our the sensors??
Last night we had a 4.6 earthquake and it gave me a couple seconds of warning which was awesome! Theoretically if the big one would happen that would have gave me time to go get my parents to a safer place. This App is amazing!

My alert settings are for a 50 mile radius of home base, yet just now I got an alert for an event from 191 miles away. Thats the 2nd time that’s happened. Once the alert came after a small earthquake.
Todays early morning earthquake only 1 of our 3 iPhones warned us. All of our iPhones have the same settings on MyShake. If this app is to be trusted, it needs to be closer to 99.99% reliable. I now have to worry that my wife’s iPhone and work phone may not work in a quake. While my phone alerted us correctly, I am nervous about relying on this app for my family. Another problem is false positives. Almost every time this app goes off it is for an earthquake so far away that it ca
Had to take away a star -1 now 2 stars because damn app woke me up when the quake happening wasn’t felt at all and the LOCATION was 293 miles AWAY 5 hr and 17 min DRIVE! Terrible. Not surprised if from “Berkeley”. One more issue like this and app is getting deleted. And one STAR-ED! 🙄😒😑
This app freaked me out with an urgent warning to drop and cover for a 5.9 earthquake. I felt absolutely nothing…because it was over over 250 miles away! Seriously? How did this ridiculous warning happen? Also the way the app organizes and presents past events is a jumble of chronological and distance. Not intuitive.
22% of my battery usage is this app since iOS14. Also, I live in California and my phone has never detected a quake
The MyShake app is now responsible for over 30% of my power usage, which under iOS 14 has gone from a day drops to 80% to a day drops to 20%. What is MyShake doing that consumes so much power?
This could be a very useful and lifesaving app, but it drains my phone battery every night. I presume this is because it is actively monitoring but if the phone is dead then it isn’t monitoring anything.
Really bad battery drain with location always on. Did not experience this before.
I love the concept, but this app uses some 30% of my battery, and that means needing to recharge nearly 3x as often. So I've turned off it's always on access to Location Sharing. Pity.
Works, but eats more than 2x the amount of battery compared to the next most-used app, all from the background. Drains battery overnight to 0%. Can’t really get an earthquake alert if your phone is dead.
