45 Positive User Reviews for PeakFinder

It’s rare that an app comes along that still surprises me with its usefulness, form, and function.

The perfect mix of simple and complex.

Thanks for a great app!

Kudos to Peakfinder! I’ve been using Peakfinder for nearly 10 years and it has always excelled at identifying peaks for me whether I’m in Maine, Colorado, Wyoming, wherever. Recently the old version that I had installed failed because it was no longer supported. Fabio Soldati of Peakfinder responded promptly and provided a free update. I really appreciate this since not all developers stand by the original purchase when it has “aged out.” Thanks, Fabio!

Outstanding Fearures

This app is outstanding. You can download data offline, annotate photos, etc. It is also not a subscription and I feel as if my photos are permanent.

Love this app

I’ve been using this app for ages. So often when we travels there’s an impressive or unique peak that we wonder about. With this app, wonder no more! It’s like magic, point your phone and it overlays the horizon. Adjust slightly and boom! Peak names. Last year I even started taking some photos through this app and it will overlay peak names. Always impresses people when I share those.

Interesting but location hasn’t worked in several years

I liked this app, but it has thought I was in Ireland for several years. It won’t update my location and wants me to step outside even though I’m 40 miles from a structure.

Simple and very effective

I’ve tried learning/using several apps for planning location photoshoots, but none does it as easily and quickly as PeakFinder. I may open those others if I wand different info, but PF usually gets me all I need to know in much less time. Thanks to their team for this irreplaceable tool.

Great app for the outdoors.

I can’t believe I did not have this app sooner, as an outdoor enthusiast I have experience with many of the navigation apps like Gaia, AllTrails, CalTopo and more. This app works great in the backcountry and is intuitive.

Amazing Offline Tool

Just an overall amazing tool that when used enough will have you remembering the names of all the peaks in your town!

I love this APP!

It’s great to use, either in the field or from the couch. (That’s the canned response - but I agree with it completely.) Any mountain loving person should have this. I hope the developer is rewarded enough so it doesn’t go away!

Love “Real” Sun & Moon rise-set times!

Very useful and fun app👍🏽 Love that it gives Sun & Moon times on the visual horizon of wherever I am for setting up camp for views and morning sunrise. Very useful for learning peaks WAY in the distance. Incorporating the camera view great for later reference of landscapes of trip photos is brilliant idea. Well done 🙏

Indispensable in your the white mountains

I love this app! It even overlays the peaks with the photograph, almost magical!

Almost perfect

Needs to show peaks past 197 miles

Clients live this app

I do interior design in the mountains. When you can go out with the client and take a picture of their view and provide them with the names of the mountains they are looking at it is an awesome moment!!

Night Photographer’s Dream Come True

This is by far the best, most accurate app for planning night photography utilizing moonlight. I’ve used this app for photographing moonrises and moon sets next to mountains peaks with pinpoint accuracy.

Essential for backcountry navigation

I can triangle late my location using this app and my compass.

Review of your app

A excellent app for hikers. I use it almost every time I’m on a mountain and have recommended to many people! Keep up the great job! 👍🥾

Amazing app for hiking and offroading

Love this app when I'm up in the mountains of the PNW. Love marking locations for further information about once I get back home.

Ranges?

It does not appear to indicate the mountain ranges which was all I was looking for. Google seems to indicate it can, but so far as I can see, it can’t.

Know Your Terrain

If you're looking for the perfect companion to AllTrails, this is the app. I've been using it for years and only get lost when I want to.

Best money I spent

Amazing topography tool and makes identifying the peaks around so much easier. I missed having the app for all my hikes and now I am rediscovering peaks when hiking. Have used the App in Yosemite, kings canyon and all over PNW. Highly recommend it.

Most elegant app, ever?

I really love this app. Been using software a long time. This is one of the best of all time. Incredibly well thought out and performed.

Awesome App

I rarely write reviews, but this is a well thought out app. Kudos to the developer. Lots of great features. Well worth the buy.

After all these years

The first and best. So straightforward and functional. Wish about two dozen other apps I rely on worked this well.

Easy to use, yet packed with features

PeakFinder is one of our regular apps here in the mountainous West. It boggles the mind how it works so quickly to reveal topographic features near and far. It works without fuss, but now that I’ve finally read the manual, I’m dazzled by the extra features and adjustments that are available. This app is easily worth several times its price.

Only major peaks

For alpine areas it works well though mountain shapes a a wee bit off. Where I'm disappointed is it does not identify named foothills. From town here (sea level) we see the olympic mountains. The main named peaks over 5000 feet are named but named high points in the 3000-4000 foot range are not. It would also be nice if named passes were labeled. I'm not familiar with other apps in this category but would definitely look at others to see if they have better coverage

Awesome info

The camera overlay makes it that much better. I can save screenshots to identify peaks later. I use this app a lot.

Seems to work great

Works great, worth the money. Only thing that I wish it had was when you are looking at the topography map, if it wasn’t just white and actually had an option for color data from google maps, that would look better for pictures. Overall very good app though!

Fantastic

Absolutely reasonably priced, great UX and does what it does very well. Thanks!

Great app

No complaints. Would be nice to see eclipse events added to the paths.

Everyone's jealous

Have had this app for years and absolutely love it. Every time I use it, someone goes "whoa that's amazing, what's it called??" Be that guy with the cool app that other hikers wish they had.

A useful and well designed app

I love this app! I live in an area with mountains and it’s so easy to start the app, point, and learn the names of what I see. Highly recommended

Great App

I have used this app in North Carolina, California, Nepal and other places and it works flawlessly. I highly recommend the app!

Identifying

Great app, great concept. Nice to know what you are looking at and elevation. Only negative is when the view finder does not match up with the mountains then it becomes a guessing game.

Very nice app

Very good app. Worth all of the $5. There is a lot more hill where I am then big mountains so it’s very useful

Elk mountains

I live in full view of the Elks. From Chair to Aspen Mountain. Because of the app, I know all their names!

Great app and very precise, fantastic

Excellent job. Very well done, fantastic. Highly recommended

One of the coolest apps

This app works very (especially after some kinks were worked out early on) to help identify the peaks near you. Very helpful and fun. Recommend to all.

Easy to use, updated often!

Incredibly easy to use. Accurate. They update app often. It just works! Thank You developers!

Love this app

Love having this app when I’m out exploring and can identify peaks, especially when I’m seeing them from a new angle.

Highly recommended

I can’t recommend this app enough. It is incredibly functional and, after reviewing the clear and simple instructions on the developer website, easy to use. And it’s just plain fun for any level of explorer.

Hiking Alone

For when there’s not THAT GUY to tell everybody what they’re looking at.

One of my favorite outdoor apps!

This app is such a joy to use. I frequently find myself opening it up upon reaching a summit and using the camera overlay to identify all the visible peaks.

Keeper

Great app Love knowing the names of Mountain

Amazing!!

I love to share this app to everyone that I meet on the trail!

Amazing but...............................

When I got it is working just fine but now that I’m using a Maps to get me towards a certain peak it just kicks me out
