Startpage - Private Browser App Reviews

I don’t have a complaint. I don’t have a bad word simply best search engine

It is a very private app, but I have 2 problems with it: 1) I always prefer using the private browsing side of the browser, but there is no way to set it to open automatically in private mode. 2) The app has crashed on me twice in the short time I have been using it. And since I am in private browsing, there is no way for StartPage to restore the tabs. That is frustrating to say the least. I will go back to Firefox, which has been very reliable for me for years.

Awesome browser but needs a tracker blocker like DuckDuckGo

So it’s great. I’ve tried other so called private browsers and some just don’t do what they claim. Startpage has so far. I can’t find any history on my phone of sites I’ve been trying o not that I’m hiding anything. Just testing and it works

I’ve only been using Startpage for a couple of weeks now. So far I like it. Not obnoxious ads on the start page, just a clean look so you can get to searching!

Thank you, thank you, thank you to the Startpage staff for this browser. This is such an exciting development for privacy! I am enjoying using this app on all of my devices.

Everyday this app crashes. They tell me sorry. Need to fix this app so it never crashes. Malware maybe or a virus. This is the only app that I have that Crashes everyday. From Jack

So my rating is low strictly due to no built in ad blocker. Any self proclaimed privacy browser should have this. It seems to be the norm though. Just look at the DuckDuckGo browser. 😶 However, happy to see the option to block all third party cookies. I’ll continue to use my usual browser of choice and check in on this from time to time. Unfortunately if this app can be set to never remember history and automatically clear cache and website data I was unable to find the setting. If I want to clear everything, which I desire every time I use the browser, I must manually go into settings in two different places to do so. This lack of ability to automatically clear all data on browser close or, if lacking that, to have a one touch clear ala Duckduckgo’s page burn, makes Startpage much less appealing for me. This browser does what it promises to do. However, night mode is a must for me. While a dark theme is supported, I need to surf the web without the bright white or blue webpage backgrounds. I need black webpage backgrounds with white text. The absence of this feature prevents me from making StartPage my default browser.
