21 Positive User Reviews for The Ensign

A worthy predecessor

I’ve been a fan of A Dark Room for years, and when I belatedly realized a prequel had come out, I was ecstatic. This game is made of text, buttons and Unicode characters, but the combat is gripping, the gameplay is challenging but not frustrating, the worldbuilding is vast and complex, and the story/character arc of the Ensign is chilling, heartbreaking and engaging. I love this game. I’ll play it again and again even though I’ve beaten it and know the story.

Creative and Engaging

This game, much like ADR, is a unique experience and a fun creative twist on a single player version of a multi-user dungeon (MUD). Bravo to the developers for creating a fun, engaging, and creative yet simplistic mobile game.

Dopest dope you ever smoked

Simple yet epic and engaging

Great game when I first played it years ago. Great still

A game that rewards patience. Enjoy this game and creator immensely. Love how the world is built up with the barest but most effective words

Awesome

Simplicity while still being complex and addicting is the holy grail. Nice work in the prequel to an awesome, original mobile game.

Great replay quality.

A good game, but I can’t find any contact information. The update is good as well, but it does make some things harder for voiceover users, thus why I’d like to talk to the developer.

Incredible

I’ve been playing this game for years- Only when I travel. Even after so many years, and even a few wins, the game is still challenging and thought-provoking. I’ve had dozens and dozens of games on my phone over the years, and The Ensign is the only one that has remained no matter what. Props to the developer who has been maintaining the app for so long.

Yeah

Bad app game crashes every time I try collecting loot still hasn’t been fixed never mind I was clicking the take all loot button in the app was crashing it works if I try taking items one by one

One of the greatest mobile games of all time

This and a dark room

Best game

Like I been playing for almost a year now, only finished the game today.

Best experience

I’m 20 years old. I finished A Dark Room at 12 or 13. I know that any game by this creator will absolutely blow me away. I connected so deeply with the characters. I come back to this experience every once in a while. No other “game” compares. It’s so beautifully written. This app keeps your sanity. It’s not all about killing like a lot of these video games lately. I couldn’t recommend this app more.

Creative and Engaging

This game, much like ADR, is a unique experience and a fun creative twist on a single player version of a multi-user dungeon (MUD). Bravo to the developers for creating a fun, engaging, and creative yet simplistic mobile game.

Elegant simplicity, yet not simple

Appearance conceals complexity of player options. The author continues to maintain and then add to the story. Long term Players are rewarded. Perhaps an additional element is soon forthcoming.

played while watching The Walking Dead

fun. die a lot in the beginning while you learn.

I let this sit for a few years

The Ensign was too hard for me and I had given up. I distinctly remember NOT liking this game. But after revisiting A Dark Room and loving it even more now than when I first played years back, I gave it another shot. Wow. This game is incredible. Honestly, the developer is on another level. I don’t think I was mature enough to appreciate this game before. I’m glad that I could experience it differently now, and am curious if it will hit even more differently when I’m even older and revisit.

Lots to explore, play slow

The game really rewards patience and keeping track of everything step by step. I was able to beat after about 300 minutes of gameplay and that involved losing many times to learn. Very good game, I enjoyed it.

Great follow up

Play a dark room first, but spend the money here. Sign of outstanding game play and storytelling that ascii characters are aLl you need. Up there with nethack (look it up)

Just the right amount of frustration

I love this game and I don’t even like games

Fantastic game

Not as good as a dark room, which I’d give 6 stars if I could. Game is challenging and interesting

Favorite Mobile Game

I’ve beaten this game numerous times and just recently I’ve found it had an updated ending that shocked me! Love this game!

Doesn’t come close to A Dark Room

Honestly just annoying gameplay.
