35 Positive User Reviews for 1Writer

rock solid

Surprised to see that this app was updated two years ago… There's no sign that it is aging at all. This is the only markdown app that I have ever used for writing stories that hasn't revealed some quirky incompatibility with my process. I love it.

Really nice app. Wish it could print in color

I like this app a lot. Only limitation I see is that I cannot export the same view as in the render mode. It always prints black and white. If it had color export or print this would be five star all the way. Still a nice app for reviewing, just need to be able to print and email a pdf in color.

My most-used app

I can edit all my text files on iCloud from my phone! Powerful and reliable. Love it. The JavaScript actions are handy, too.

WebDAV is so smooth

While WebDAV is present if you don’t use it at install it is hard to find. In general navigation isn’t as intuitive as aiWriter, and it isn’t as feature rich… that said it is more affordable. Still, with offline storage, WebDAV has a lot of value with a local Nextcloud install. The creator should be advertising this more. I use this with Obsidian on computer as I don’t want to pay to for Obsidian sync.

Used to work great, but i can no longer edit any files over WebDAV

Used to work great, but i can no longer edit any files over WebDAV after updating to iOS 26. 5 star app otherwise, but useless until gets fixed. EDIT: Thank you to the developer for fixing the bug! Five stars.

Really glad to see updates again

This was one of the most useful tools on my iPad and iPhone. Glad to see it being updated again

Great

No frills or clutter, fast, stable for years. Excellent app that does what it says.

Fantastic little markdown editor

Rock solid, reliable, affordable, and still maintained without feature bloat. Strong integration with the Files app, and it respects my font preferences in Settings. Its flexible organizational features make it an excellent repository for plain text notes of all kinds, regardless of their extension or what app I produced them in.

GREAT APP

This is the smoothest and most beautiful Markdown editor I've ever seen, and its support for WebDAV is simply perfect! Does the author have any plans to continue updating it? For example, could it be adapted to the latest iOS and iPadOS 26?

Over a decade later, still great

I first downloaded 1Writer over a decade ago, and still use it on a weekly basis. It keeps everything I write synced to my Nextcloud server via WebDAV and support markdown formatting. Love it. Many thanks to the developer for continuing to support it for so long!

Perfect

The perfect writing app. Big fan of its Dropbox-connection support. Powerful where you need it, simple and elegant everywhere else. All software should be like this.

Print doesn’t print images

Even though the images are correctly linked and viewing in the preview, when printing the images are not printed and instead replaced with question mark placeholders.

Worth $5

I can edit my documents directly in Dropbox, iCloud or OneDrive while I’m away from my computer and have time to work on them. My changes are immediately synced. It’s an incredible benefit for working on articles, notes and code. It’s definitely a developer’s assistant.

Top of the stack

A better mobile notes app doesn't exist. What I love: - Extra keyboard row - Notes import - Dark mode - Simplicity

Nextcloud powered notes syncing!

I self host Nextcloud and I can use the WebDAV syncing to point at the notes folder on my server. And now I can use the same notes everywhere without relying on a proprietary syncing service or iCloud. This is what I’ve been looking for to pair with Typora for iOS/Mac/Linux notes taking bliss!

Best writing app I’ve ever used.

This app is fantastic. One of its best features is how it will remember where you last left the cursor in a document when you open another. You can swipe out of a draft and come back to it right where you left off. This and being able to organize everything into files has made it one of my most used apps because of how easy it makes writing.

My favorite text editor / notebook

Probably one of the most useful tools on my iPad and iPhone.

Big fan of this app

One feature that feels missing: when opening a file from Dropbox, there’s not an indication of whether that file is the current version until the app finishes syncing. It only takes a few seconds to sync, but that’s enough time to make an edit that will generate a Dropbox “conflicted” duplicate of the file. If there were a visual “syncing” indicator, or if Dropbox files weren’t editable until syncing completed, that would clarify that 1Writer is working in the background, which isn’t clear curr

Still handy, still gr8ly used!

Luv this app. Runs w/o bugs and handles all my txt doc needs so I am not tied to Apple notes app. I sync w/ free version of Dropbox. Using it for >3 yrs. Perfect! #RECOMMENDED iOS 16 on iPhone 14 & iPad mini 6

This app does markdown editing right

There are million ways to create markdown editor, but only few ways to make it right. This app is one done right.

Nice editor, but could use some support for org files

I really like the features and design of this app. One downside is my files are formatted in the org format. Full text search does not work with them, even though they are just text files. Some support for org rendering would also be nice.

Awesome

Searched for so many markdown editors that I could link to my NAS. This is by far the best with integration that works and user interface!

Currently my favorite simple markdown editor

It’s a simple app that gets the job done, integrates well with iCloud and Dropbox, and doesn’t crash (unlike some prominent non-free editors I’ve tried). Currently my go-to markdown editor even though I have a paid subscription to a competing app. One complaint: I don’t see a way to increase the font size for easier viewing. Also, while there may be a feature to create footnotes/endnotes, I haven’t seen it.

Works for my needs

My needs are a simple text message editor that can handle larger files, which it does really well. You can also dive into some extended, cool functionality if you need to. [This appears to be fixed now] My only negative would be that while the editor is open and I’m editing a file, if I rotate the phone (usually by accident) and rotate it back the app hangs for a couple seconds then crashes. I’ve never lost data from this happening, so it’s a minor annoyance. It’s been a very reliable app for

Missing a couple features

I would give this app 5 stars if it had the following features: 1. a toolbar button for moving whole line(s) up or down 2. a better/more visible visual style/indication for checked task list items 2. a sidebar or something that shows the outline of the document headers for navigation I work with a lot of task lists in my markdown files, so im coming from that perspective.

Outstanding

Seamless integration with your iCloud. Astonishing a powerful search capability cross multiple notes. Excellent integration of tags. Beautiful interface especially with customizable keyboards. Everything works well

Clean and Powerful

1Writer has become my “go-to” application for my notes repository domain. Being a fan of markdown, I enjoy this app’s ability to both create and easily view md formatted notes. It also provides an easy to use “file system” that allows me to structure and array of documents. The real power behind 1Writer, however, are it’s URL Scheme and JavaScript action libraries. You can create your own actions and/or choose from a series of actions that others have created and shared. From a simple note

Excellent app

This is the only app I’ve found that works well enough for note taking in plain text and syncs via Dropbox so I can use vscode for my notetaking on pc.

Excellent app, replacement for permanote

Just started using 1Writer and I find the interface great and customizability of the actions and extended keyboard row to be fantastic. It was hard to find the settings for a while (have to swipe from left side of the screen). I also suggest searching the 1Writer actions directory website for easy actions to install and tweak. Really looking forward to using this. I used to use Permanote, but when I upgraded my phone, I could not longer use the standalone version. The current Permanote version

Nice editor, but could use some support for org files

I really like the features and design of this app. One downside is my files are formatted in the org format. Full text search does not work with them, even though they are just text files. Some support for org rendering would also be nice.

Developer Thought of Everything

I use this application to edit markdown notes stored in pCloud using WebDAV so everything syncs nicely with my computer. It’s a breeze to type, especially with the handy special characters keyboard. The export function threw me for a loop at first because it defaulted to hard line breaks. I was just about to give up for another app when I found a setting just for line breaking. So glad to keep using my favorite app!

Amazing App

Why is so hard to find a simple text editor that’s not bloated with millions of opinionated features. This is all I was asking for, a simple text editor with markdown. Absolutely spot on.

Good Note App. Don’t Like Text Auto-formatting.

I like this app, but it does some auto-formatting that is annoying. I wish i could turn it off. I explored the setting and don’t see it as an option.

Excellent

Simple and intuitive. Keep up the great work.

1 Negative User Reviews for 1Writer

Buggy

The editor generally works great. But the current version when interfacing with Dropbox keeps crashing especially when switching files or directories. Very disappointing. Pretty much unusable on my phone.
