I am repeatedly amazed at how quick and accurate this app is. It identifies the birds using even a couple of seconds of sound. I was watching hummingbirds at a feeder and one took off with the slightest chirp and it got it right. The interface is very well done as you can watch it recording and just select the audio signature your interested in for ID. Very nice. I recommended to others and they love it, too.
This app is awesome and tons of fun to use when out exploring nature. One feature I would really like to see is the ability to analyze/isolate certain frequencies on the spectrogram. This would be super helpful to remove background noise or target specific birds when multiple are singing at the same time.
I know embarrassingly little about birds, and birdsong is hard to describe in words, so it’s impossible to look up after hearing one. This has been fun and easy to use, and has even helped me start to rectify my ignorance.
Again iPhones are terrible. Play Store for Android allows editing.
It’s a great app but I’ve had to learn how to use it upside down. Why? My phone microphone is at the bottom of my iPhone like most phones. It records much better if I point the bottom of the phone at the bird. If the app was able to rotate 180 in the screen like some other apps It would work better and be more usable.
The app starts up with an excellent explanation of the 2 steps involved and then presents a straight forward single screen interface that you record and submit on. Within seconds the sound analysis is done with a picture and identity of the bird. It was accurate and fun.
This app has everything!
Wow this thing is really good and has really expanded my enjoyment of birding.
This application does what it says it does. It was even able to detect my cookoo imitation and determine it was a human noise.
For anyone new to using birdsong recognition apps, Merlin is a much better place to start. However, Birdnet has some more flexibility so that you can go in and specifically highlight a song/cocalization and ask which species is that.
It didn’t really work. I mean maybe out of the 5 million bird sounds they couldn’t recognize ours. But it was so clear I don’t know how they didn’t hear it. Maybe you can make it more noisy? I probably spelt that wrong. Well anyways bye.
I really enjoy this app. My only issue is that it takes so long to open that half the time the bird has flown off before I can record it.
Works pretty good, but has no owls listed for birds in our area and cannot I’d the hoots.
This is an awesome app! It is easy to use and extremely accurate. So glad to have it. Thanks for inventing it.
Found the name of the bird that I’ve been looking for over a month. I appreciate this.
This app is mind blowing. It can pick up bird that I can hardly hear and it nails it every single time. Definitely worth the time and I 100% recommended. Great app 👍
Shazam for birds! Love it. Identification return timing varies with data speed, but they have proven always accurate for me. If anything returns a “wild guess”, I double check it in Audubon to confirm.
Loving this. Hoped song sleuth would do what this app does. Can you add the feature request to keep observation but delete audio file so we don't use up limited phone storage? Thanks
I really love knowing and detecting birds in my garden! Amazing app.
Wow! What a joy this app is. It actually displays the pitches for the bird song tones, and I was able to quickly and easily identify the song of a beautiful new bird in my area. Thank you, Cornell!
Has helped me a lot in identifying birds by sound. Also good for adding sound recordings to ebird checklists. Would be awesome if they integrated a seamless addition to ebird checklists as it is a mutli-step process currently.
I’ve tried numerous bird song identifying apps, but have now deleted them because this app is by far superior. It’s very easy to use and it really narrows down your selections to actual legit possibilities. Awesome app!
Great app but disappointed it won’t run on iOS 12. I have found a few birds it can’t identify. Mostly does really well.
Cool app. It would be neat if one could go to their observation page and edit or suggest the proper bird. I recorded a red winged blackbird and it suggested a Baltimore oriole and then a chipping sparrow. Thanks
Recently, I have been very interested in bird calls and was looking for an app that would help me memorize them. I’m only a kid and I love it! It has made birding ten times easier. thank you BirdNET!
This app is awesome! It detects multiple birds singing at the same time. Incredible!
Incredible technology. If you’re close enough to hear the bird clearly, 99% of the time it works perfectly.
