Camera Lucida™: AR Drawing App Reviews

I have used this app for years and followed the progression of updates. The developer, Peter Moeykens, is so responsive and has continued to upgrade and develop the app into the premier drawing app of all drawing apps.

Best app I have ever used.

Really impressive app for anyone wishing to improve sketching and drawing!

I’ve never written reviews like this, but I have tried multiple apps like this, and nothing compares! I can tell a major difference in my drawings as a beginner using this app. Being able to zoom in for details without losing perspective on your paper has been an absolute game-changer!

This app is a great help in checking to see if your proportions are correct as you work to get a likeness.

i just downloaded this app. For me, to make this app useful, the phone must be on a stand… i cannot hold my phone steady enough to make a decent tracing onto paper.

I’ve had this app from the beginning , I teach beginning watercolors…my students love it….once they have used it for a while they begin to draw!

I have only had the app for a weeks or so. Although I can’t use it well if I sit it on books or a blender, it works well since I got the stand. Still learning how it works and to get my hands to work in the right direction but I have accomplished a few drawings. The in-app manual and the tutorials are great to have access to. The Facebook group is very helpful to post and get help and comments. Looking forward to more exciting updates.

Have had the app for years. It’s a wonderful tool for transferring images, recording one’s own artwork, resizing images with precision, adding effects, etc. But what truly makes this app sensational is the customer service. Peter went out of his way to help me troubleshoot a technical issue with friendliness, patience and savvy. Best money ever spent on an app.

Downloaded and ran through the tutorials. Pretty easy to use. Was set up and drawing within 15 minutes. I’m sure I will learn more as I go but it’s a fantastic app. Thanks for not making using a subscription model.

I know how to draw but this app make my drawing better.

There are times that I need help getting the perspective right on my drawing as there are times I paint photorealism. This app has been a lifesaver as it would take me forever to use the grid method. Also, the creator of the app is very responsive if you can’t find the answer online.

This app is the best camera Lucida you can get. So advanced, easy simple and very helpful. When you need help with anything incl orienting in app you find it inside app but also creator responds very fast and helps with anything. I’m using this app for several years. Upgrades are absolutely top. You get a lot for the low price. 👏👏👏

I love this app, it is so helpful for creating your drawings to be used for any type of media. The developer, Peter Moeykens, also has a Camera Lucida FB site that gives helpful info from the developer and other users of the app. I’ve never used another app of any type with the level of support provided. If possible, I would give more than 5 stars!

I’m learning to use this app with my pyrography and other projects. So far it’s quite enjoyable.

I use it all the time. Take a pic then use this to transfer to my painting paper and the perspective is always perfect. It really keeps the proportions correct for faces too. Auto setup is worth the extra, in case you were wondering.

I especially love the mirror feature to project a picture on to my drawing surface. So easy!

Although I can draw, I love to paint more. This app allows me to quickly sketch my picture from a photo. If I can use it, it is very user friendly! I gave away my projector and use this app exclusively. I’m very grateful to Pete who designed the app.

This is exactly what I’ve been looking for - a straightforward way to enlarge a drawing. And your support is spectacular! When I had difficulty connecting my iPhone as “host camera” to my IPad, you responded via email within a day with an easy settings fix. I’ve already recommended this app to several fellow painters.

I don’t often review software unless it pisses me off. I am now going out of my way to give a good review. The software has great features and is well thought out AND the features work. No crashes. I was able to connect my iPad and my iPhone without issue. The fact that the developer provides great documentation and video tutorials is unusual now days. From one software developer to another, great job.

This app is a game changer for my watercolor!!! I was able to accurately draw (and subsequently paint) a teeny tiny taco. For reference, it measured about .705” (17.9mm) wide. I was blown away by the ability to zoom in while tracing. Thank you for creating this amazing app.

This app is fantastic and very helpful to check your perspective. This is especially true because I’m a beginner. Have fun everybody and draw/paint on!!!

Always my first stop to draw/sketch subjects accurately before I paint with pastels or oils. I use the posterize/levelize and 64 colors tools mostly.
