Great HRV App

I’ve used it every day for the better part of a year now first thing in the morning and I have no complaints. I was leery of the claim that the phone camera would give the same quality data as a HR chest strap but I’ve done a bunch of comparisons and yeah they give basically the same results. Which is nice because my hr strap goes on the fritz sometimes. It’s worth the money and it’s not a subscription thank god.

I Do Not Get my VO2 Max Score Anymore

I have an Oura ring and it is synced to your HRV app. I am no longer getting VO2MAX scores as calculated by your app. For years I did but am no longer getting the calculation. Help

Excellent training tool

This app is perfect for keeping track of training overload. It is simple, consistent, and actionable. With the information I can easily choose how do I adapt my training program. I must have to avoid overtraining and to optimize training.

Great App, Great Creator Substack

I use this app every morning to get a quick snapshot of my resilience. I use other tools such as an Apple Watch and Oura ring, but I’m convinced that an on demand reading first thing in the morning is a great idea. This app does that and allows tracking subjective feelings. It’s not sexy, it’s functional. Exactly as it should be. Give it a try. And check out the app Creator Marco’s Substack. He’s a reliable sports scientist who writes about topics that matter.

A Great Training Tool

I recently began training for an Everesting attempt and decided to begin tracking my training readiness more closely. This app is highly endorsed by some of the best minds in endurance training (Dr. Stephen Seiler, Alan Couzens, M. Sc.) so I decided to give it a try. I’ve been very happy with it! I’m a data guy, so I geek out with it daily. 😁 It gives me a comprehensive view of my resting heart rate and HRV trends, as well as a recommendation on how hard to train that day. And with all the addit

Long term user

I have used this science-based app for years using data from my Oura ring. It has helped me recognize patterns in my responses to diet and exercise and to recover from injury and illness. There have been some glitches on occasion. The developers respond to requests for help within 24 hours and fix problems promptly. Exceptional app and developer.

Amazing. Best of the HRV apps

This is simply the best of the HRV apps. Broad functionality and great support. I have tried them all and this far outshines all others. Highly recommend

Best HRV app and protocol

This is the best way to implement HRV. It’s not the easiest way, you have to take an intentional action every morning. But I believe it’s the best way. I don’t actually know yet how important it is to my training, but I do believe the data is good, and I think that down the line I will be happy that I took the opportunity to collect it. The founder Marco Altini is brilliant, and it feels very much like he is involved every step of the way. Follow him on twitter (X) and you’ll learn so much. He’l

Almost Perfect

I use this app to record my resting heart rate and HRV every morning, and it's been reliable over the years. However, a few minor bugs stop me from giving it a 5-star rating. Fortunately, they don't affect the accuracy of the readings. I'll up my rating when these issues are fixed: 1) Vibration setting only vibrates at the end of a reading, not at the start. 2) Runs in fullscreen mode, hiding status bar items like time, battery, and Dynamic Island activity. 3) Start and end sleep time controls

Functional to the Max

I’ve been taking HRV since 2013 and moving to HRV4Training when it first came out. It does what it’s designed to do and does it well.

Great concept but buggy SW

I like the idea behind this concept of taking HRV readings consistently in the morning when wake up and keep track of the trend. Unfortunately the SW does not take in readings from Apple Watch in a consistent manner, especially since updated to iOS 17 and watch OS 10, it doesn’t take readings at all.

Different readings between HRV4X tools

I like the app and its clear the developer is an expert in this field. The data science side of the tool is excellent. However, I have all 4 HRV apps from the developer and they return different readings when taken back to back. For example, the past three days I’ve checked rMSSD using both HRV4Training (A) and camera HRV (B) and the values have been: A=75, B=44 A=91, B=67 A=98, B=69 So at least they trend together, and the trend matters far more than the actual value. Still curious though!

Measurements unreliable

I’ve followed the directions for measuring HRV on the phone carefully but I don’t feel I can trust it. Sometimes I get two wildly different numbers measuring back-to-back in the same position. Other times I’m not moving my finger at all but halfway through the measurement it will tell me I need to reposition my finger, and do this about five times. I have an iPhone 13 mini.

The Best HRV App for looking at trends

After having tried a bunch of the HRV apps, this is definitely the best. Not only does it work consistently, which cannot be said for other apps, it is by far superior on being able to see trends over time.

Amazing App

The best way to take and analyze HRV and HR data that I have used outside of a lab. This is well worth it!

Gamechanger

I bought my iPhone SE just to use these apps, and they do not disappoint. Major boost to daily insight into your health, catching correlations to certain behaviors/diets, guiding your training, and more.

Best HRV App out there

I have tried many of the HRV apps out there. No other has the focus on accuracy, and actionable insights the way HRV4Training does. Totally changing my relationship with training and recovery

Invaluable data…

For monitoring your systems response to stress, be it training or life.

Easiest to use

It can read Apple Watch data so it’s quick

Awesome app

I love HRVTraining. So easy to take a sample from the phone camera or Apple Watch. Thank you for giving me an extra piece of mind about my recovery !

Simply the best

Nothing better. I have tried them all. Will improve your training!

Where did the rest of my workouts go?

Updated app now only showing one workout - my weights and yoga are not calculating. And zero options to contact support. What the heck.

9 Negative User Reviews for HRV4Training

New update destroyed it

I’ve been using this for awhile, but since it’s latest update it always blinks out before completing a reading. The sensor is far too touchy now and no longer reliable.

Cool Concept if it Worked

I was really excited for the information this app promised to provide, ESPECIALLY, since I have been an avid Oura ring user. However, the app does not easily pull data from Oura and most of the time, I can’t get it to pull any data from Oura.

Interesting but buggy

The continuous crashes and hangs get in the way of the app’s purpose.

Crashes Unusable w/ Latest Update

The app just crashes before ever opening now on the latest version of iOS, iPhone 14 Pro and latest version of the app. Longtime user and love the app, but completely unusable currently.

Any measurement tricks for iPhone 17 Pro?

Longtime HRV4Training user (57.5 week average; since 2020) and just purchased an iPhone 17 Pro. With the flashlight/flash moved away from the main fusion iPhone lens by approximately 3cm, are there any tricks to taking a HRV measurement? Should the wide angle lens be used instead; it is only 1.5 cm away from the flashlight/flash… I can’t seem to take an accurate measurement with an iPhone 17 Pro with the new camera lens layout.

HRV insights are fine, but the app needs work.

Used the app for a bit, the HRV insights are fine, but I was put off by the app requiring that I register an account to use it. The rationale as described on the registration page sums up to ‘You need to register because registration is necessary’. When I tried to delete my account, the app threw an error indicating that I need to send them an email to complete the process. I used Hide My Email during registration which can only be used for receiving emails, so I needed to change my email before

Very Silly App

This app give you a training readiness score based on two things (1) a morning hrv reading and (2) a bunch of questions it asks you. However I’ve found that no matter what my hrv reading is, the app seems to base its readiness score off the answers to my questions. Also if all the hrv apps I’ve tried, this one is the least polished. It’s clunky to use.

Used to be amazing

I had been using this for three years successfully. For more than a month, the app says it has my OuraRing data but there is no display. Reached out to support and no reply. Is this app still supported? Disappointed because as an athlete, this is one of the only HRV apps that didn’t tell me that I was pushing myself too hard every day rather than most that are for general fitness.

Not what I was expecting

I wanted this app to sync the raw HRV data read from Oura into TrainingPeaks. It doesn’t actually send the raw HRV number instead it’s sending a score which is not HRV.
