We’re circumnavigating and use LuckGrib for all of our routing. Some small additions to the detail report would be really helpful. 1. Wave period. 2. Wave angle relative to the boat. #1 you a,ready show when just looking at specific points. The other is a calculation of Heading(not COG), vs Wave direction.
All apps should have the amount of care built in to them that LuckGrib has. It has several hands-on tutorials built in that are easy to get to and learn from. This app is easy to use and very useful! It has a ton of features and thanks to the tutorials I can get to them and use them. I am very impressed by the functionality, ease of use, and I know I can use the tutorials if I get stuck.
LuckGrib has a much broader broad range of weather and oceanographic models to choose from compared to other apps and LuckGrib gives you access to the detailed data if you care to understand the why of the forecast. The ensemble forecasts are great for making clear the variability between the models. The vessel and output parameters are highly customizable. The GUI and output are candy. It’s become my primary tool for planning offshore passages.
Using LuckGrib for some boat optimizations for Great Lakes racing and the combination of detailed real-world options and settings and ability to quickly visualize decisions and their ramifications is second to none. Well done!
So easy to use. Tutorials are built in and easy to follow. Great app!
Love the compression and fast download, the access to regional models as well as global, Luck Grib is my go to weather app for passage planning.
Easy to use and excellent routing output. Compares very favorably to other routing apps. Must have. Support is top.
Smooth yet powerful user interface is a pleasure to use. Ease of accessing ASCAT data alone is worth the price of admission. Extensive documentation tells you a lot about the developer's attention to detail. Very reasonable pricing model--no subscriptions!
We love LuckGrib and use it while cruising in the Pacific Northwest where wind is always on our minds (too much and too little). The tutorial is very helpful, there is a large selection of forecast models to select from, and the graphic output is easily understandable. There is a bit of a learning curve but that is true of all Grib file apps. Give it a chance and I think you’ll be impressed!
People think weather routing is only useful for long distance sailors. How wrong. The departure variations option lets you pick the right time of day for leaving considering wind (HRRR)and currents (NCOM) for the US east coast for example. Worked this summer multiple times and was very accurate. I love this app!
A very complex complete app. It gives the used a easy to understand view for routing for a offshore voyage. I have used the routing feature on some local 1-2 day trips and find it to be quite accurate and easy to follow. Pretty steep learning curve (very complex subject) but excellent YouTube videos aided me in basic understanding.
After 40,000 miles of using “big brand” apps that require a monthly subscription I couldn’t be happier with LuckGrib. PAY ONCE USE FOREVER. The layout and usability is very easy once you spend a few minutes with the included tutorials and from there it just gets better and better!
Extremely versatile tool for weather analysis and passage planning and routing. It’s not as automatic as PW, but is faster and offers better control of parameters and views. A great value for serious sailors.
Intuitive, well designed and affordable. The oceanic current gribs are not easy to find on internet, but here they are. Thank you!
Far and away the best GRIB viewer available on iOS. Also the Mac version is killer much better than anything available for windows.
My initial investment of time to learn this app has revealed the many facets and flexibility in using the LuckGrib as opposed to other apps in this field. I especially like the ability to modify and then view the many aspects of sailing that are important. The more I use the LuckyGrib the more confidence I have in it’s projections. On a recent passage LuckyGrib was the most accurate while other app were significantly off. Thank for a great app. Sincerely William Lippincott
I dumped Predict Wind for this platform (iOS and MacOS) and never looked back. It is worth your time to read Craig’s entire site and absorb all that is going on in the background to better understand it’s capabilities. His “manual” is as thoughtfully written as his software development. Easy to use with a UI that was clearly made for the Apple ecosystem (i.e. not a PC carryover).
Super interface with lots of features and easy downloading from a wide variety of models. Routing tool is powerful.

I wanted a weather app with routing but I don’t want to pay a subscription. This checks all the boxes My only fear is the developer will give up on this app since it’s a pretty small market. Please keep the updates coming!!
Craig has created an amazing tool, with features not found elsewhere. His thoughtful inclusion of many different views useful for passage planning (motoring vs sailing, day vs night, waves, etc) are usually spot on for what I want. And the ability to vary the departure time, oh my! You need a boundary line to avoid Frying Pan shoals? No problem. Or to force the route through the narrow Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel openings? Sure! And all data is free. Just pay once. I love it.
I’ve only invested in the GRIB portion but intend to get the weather routing soon. Beautifully done application obviously based on expertise in both sailing and meteorology. Well worth the price.
Great app. I do wish you would bring back the SPC model (Not sure where from), to show % of tornado, hail etc. Update: why cannot i get cloud levels in the gfs fekm noaa? Inselect them hut they do not show.

Steve has created a great app for sailors. Try out his 14 day trial!
Recently purchased the app and been using it aboard and underway for a week. Very functional and well thought out and the tutorials excellent as well. About to do an ocean passage and its already helped immensely.
