MasterClass: Become More You App Reviews

Periodically over the years I’ve subscribed to MasterClass. I subscribed last year and did not recognize or remember an auto-renewal feature was active. This year the subscription renewed automatically and I tried to cancel within four hours of notification, but Masterclass was not willing to refund me citing their policy. Challenge yourself to listen to something out of the ordinary from what you think you would listen to… you’ll love it! And you’ll learn something super intriguing. Keep the interesting people coming, every single video and series is worth listening too. For a time when podcasts are now over run with just people with a microphone and no actual education, this is the new place to find real professionals in their field telling their secrets, knowledge and advice.

When I cast the video from The app to my TV, the app is incredibly glitchy. I have to restart it constantly to get it to work to allow me to pause, etc!

Topics are too general and are great for discussions on broad topics but most don’t go deep enough. The depth doesn’t have to be with the experts, that can be done with other practitioners out topical educators/trainers. App is very difficult to deal with. Navigation isn’t intuitive, logging in is a major hassle if using a group account. When my is updates, all login details are lost. Account validation process is Byzantine.

While I loved the context it was a poor experience trying to use offline. After months of trying to get help with my issues (app struggled to load, many viewing glitches, app could not track progress for classes watched offline, etc) I gave up and asked for a refund for the half year remaining (since reporting). They only agree to a small $30 refund.

So far I love the content. The frustrations that might keep me from paying beyond my trial: not all able to be downloaded. Doesn’t auto-play in the series. Hard to find multiple classes I’m listening to, and finding my last spot. Would love but not required: Suggestions based on previous Classes

So I love the videos I watch on here but I hate the app. The search engine is messy, trying to go back takes too long, going to someone’s overview and video catalog isn’t easy either. I end up starting a video and then I can’t remove a video from my list even though I never intended on starting the course. So for that you get 3 but other than that it’s great I like the content.

Some of the content is really great quality. My issue is with the App functionality: 1. Completed classes still show as In Progress and begin playing as soon as the app is opened. Need a ‘mark as complete’ option. 2. Also dislike that the episodes will play if I accidentally bump them and then it’s harder to get back to where I was in the episode I was actually playing.

So “class recourses” seem to have been removed. Am example would be screenplay PDF’s on the Aaron Sorkin class. It was a very good thing to have on the app and I wish the change hadn’t been made

I have tried to get in touch with MASTERCLASS to stop the billing but I can’t seem to find the right avenue to do this ,,, so here I am. My credit card company keeps changing my card numbers because the billing on this app is relentless. Can anyone help me with this please.

I was double charged this June on my purchase for renewal of MasterClass. I had purchased the individual plan, and had it set to renew. Not only did it renew, I was also charged for a Duo at 179 a month. Please advise. Thanks.

App seems to work well enough. Great service.

I love this app especially as a young aspiring writer. However I wish y’all had a monthly subscription option instead of a yearly one. But besides that I love the app!

I have auto play turned off, however it auto plays the last watched video. Then after pausing the video it starts playing again a while later.

I am grateful that such a platform exists. I hope that you guys ever stop trying to make the world a better place, one lesson at a time.

Classes are great. App not so much, takes 3 minutes to buffer a 3 minute lesson.

The content is great, I really enjoy the classes I choose. However, the app crashes a lot, gives error messages a lot, and constantly pauses in the middle of me watching my classes. I don’t know if the MC app is built to perform the way it needs too with the quantity of subscribers it has? But for the price I’m paying, I would expect the app to be more reliable. So 5 stars for content, 0-1 for the app, averaging out to a 3 star review.

MasterClass is at the top of their game. I have spent hours listening to perspectives on life from people I’ve admired for years and people I’ve discovered though the app. In a time of such polarization, MasterClass also provides a safe space for users to listen to viewpoints counter to their own so we can better understand our neighbors and friends. Finally, I have had nothing but positive experiences with MasterClass customer service. I highly recommend this platform.

No review is needed; the title is both review and in the title.

Obviously, you will not really learn anything in those few minutes of the course. The purpose of ‘classes’ is to hear a little about their craft from someone you like. Entertainment, not education.

My father reaches his golden age and keeps his mind active by watching different classes. He enjoys the wide selection of topics. It’s not just education it is also a quite entertaining pastime.

For those of you looking to learn how to be better creatives then WHY NOT LEARN FROM THE BEST!!!!! This app is full of the GREATEST creatives of our time!!!! If you want to become a master at a thing - this app is probably not for you. But if you want to get into the minds of people who are masters of their craft and understand how they think about the world, their lives, their values, the impact they are making, etc… this is definitely for you. I have applied many life lessons into my own profession - even when their profession was completely unrelated to my own.

I had downloaded a bunch of content so I could watch on a flight. App doesn't work in airplane mode. Netflix, Apple TV, etc have all figured out how to allow watching content while not connected. Really disappointed to find this app did not

It doesn’t have everything that I expected but it’s a very very great app it’s worth the money.

As a teacher of many. I love that there is a location I can go and learn.

It is great but needs more sports for example baseball, football etc.

Masterclass has things you didn’t even know you needed. I joined for the music classes, but found there are other things like mental health that are very helpful. I fully recommend this to everyone. Learn from the masters.

For people who listen to videos and podcasts with any regularity, the fact that there are no playback speeds between 1.0 and 1.5 is a shame. Should be able to adjust this in 0.05 or 1.1 increments. Easy feature, big impact.

From Barbecue to business and creative this is real life learning that can be used and works.

amazing!!! This is the best education platform I've ever used

Really well-produced app and videos, with great teachers. The annual subscription was worthwhile for Chris Hadfield alone. Excellent.

I enjoy the classes and there’s a great variety and content added often, but the app is terrible to use. Very buggy, I have to force close it often. Also, the UX needs a lot of improvement. I don’t want a video to automatically start when I open the app, it would be nice to have a conclusion at the end of the series to know it’s done when I’m just listening and not watching, the navigation between videos and class pages need to be better, amongst other things.

I rarely leave a review but this app is so frustrating to use. Crashes all the time doing basic navigation and don’t even think about trying to cast to a smar tv. Gosh do you guys even test this stuff before releasing it? Do better

This app is infuriating. It freezes constantly. Won’t stream to my TV half the time, and only plays in 10 second spurts the other half.

Any organization that creates any hurdle to discontinue service is lacking integrity and showing low faith in their own quality. It sure was easy to sign up. Not easy to get stop.

Frustrating because Masterclass clearly spends a lot of effort and resources on content and master teachers. Maybe one of their tech masters could rescue their app from the ongoing, prevalent glitches and problems. They need serious help with UX.

Interviews are fun, but the company name is misleading. No structured learning. I guess I expected to gain more knowledge and skills. Learn more from the same folks on YouTube, honestly. New content is few and far between as well.

The knowledge is good but much/ most of it is surface level inspirational stuff or the same depth you would receive in a Ted talk on YouTube. The App experience is absolutely horrible though. There’s no consistent way to return to the home page, you cannot exit out of a video without redirecting back multiple pages instead of just hitting an ‘x’ on the screen of the video being played.

The content is awesome and continues to grow, however, the app is slow, glitchy, not intuitive, crashes just enough to piss you off, and really makes one wonder how something so pricy could have such a poor performing app. I give an extra star for content but really, how can one enjoy the content when it’s hard to access and maneuver.
