The New York Times App Reviews

I have to delete and reload it frequently on my iPhone X because the app tends to freeze on opening it.

The app is decent enough but in terms of content, there’s too much editorial creep for my taste. On the plus side, I get free access through the library and free is the right price.

Please update app to allow for newsletter to be viewed directly, similar to FT. Perhaps replacing the ‘for you’ section or at least upgrading it to allow users to follow certain contributors, columns, and newsletters, and find them in the for you page, similar to WSJ app, is much needed.

Each time the app pulls data to refresh the page you have to wait while the page jumps around spastically. When this happens, any hope of scrolling from when you left off is gone

I have an all-access subscription. Suddenly the app won’t give me access to the crossword puzzle. It says I have to subscribe. But I already do subscribe, and I’m logged in to the app.

NYTimes has great content. But they only know how to deliver it like an old newspaper. It's very difficult to find articles via search, and I end up relying on Google and a web browser, which means I don't read the articles in the app. Their search is also hidden away. Their games regularly crash the app. Mediocre overall. But, better than any other newspaper developed news app, now it has night mode, and content is being developed for digital consumption. I just wish the navigation were better,

This isn't journalism. You will lose, NYT.

because I really don’t care about the NYT puzzles or games.

The play tab rarely works right. What’s the point? Having to find a way thru other games in infuriating

The apps games are not meshing well. Just to play Wordle I have to find a game that has a pull down list and find it. If I want to play games, I click on the play icon and nothing, constantly. What’s the point of it doesn’t work. I also showed my girlfriend how to play Wordle on her NYT app, she doesn’t pay for games, so just to get to Wordle she has to click on Vertex or Tiles and go to the pull down menu and click on Wordle. EVERY SINGLE TIME.

This is the best source of news and information that I have ever come across. I don’t even get to read the whole thing but I still pay because you guys deserve every penny. Truth has a liberal bias and I am totally fine with that. I do have issue with the dark mode. Please provide us options to turn it on or off.

All of a sudden I was enjoying reading the NYT in dark mode, but I thought it was the Washington Post. I was confused, enjoying my reading but I kept saying “this doesn’t seem like the Post.” 4 stars because iPad doesn’t have dark mode yet. And in general, the app is awkward at times. So, however, now I am keeping the app.

For months, and through several app updates, when I load from my iPad I get a frozen screen of the top half of the load. No matter how long I wait, it never loads the full content. This happens more than 50% of the time. Is it specific to the iPad? To the app? I have no idea but it is frustrating.

Love the app, but when I try to open an acrostic crossword puzzle, the app opens the game Vertex instead.

i am constantly losing my progress with the crosswords after exiting out of the window. it’s extremely disheartening and disappointing. please fix as i’m sure there is something wrong with your code. it’s been happening for months…

This app is almost perfect. I love using it. It would be five stars if you had the option for dark mode. It would make many migraineurs and light sensitive folks very happy. I am grateful that your crossword app has dark mode, though!

It goes without saying that this is an excellent paper but no night mode? Really?

They make it very difficult to delete your subscription, pushing the process into an ELONGATED chat function. Took a sizable amount of time and quickly became very frustrating. Frequent lack of delivery for physical papers.

Great news source, but the app is difficult to browse and very bright at night when I do most of my reading.

Just downloaded the latest upgrade. The archive does not work. It did. Now it takes you to the most recent unsolved puzzle. Waiting for the next upgrade….

Years from now, NYT will give a presentation on how they spent 24 months perfecting dark mode before they released it. Stop making us wait!

Again, just brought up the app and it is non-responsive. Have to close it several times...sometimes just give up...the app is free but not the subscription...thinking about ending that

50% of the time I try to open this app it freezes. Doesn’t seem able to handle all the media files. Really frustrating.

Why are they’re articles at the top of a section that have been there for days. Much rather see more new stories.

Since last week the app crashes every few mins in the middle of reading an article. Please fix this!

What have you done…..all is changed,…..do not where to go….did I lose my subscription and have to renew?? What are youdoing? Help

I’ve loved the NYTimes app for a long time. Very well designed for the user. I’d give five stars if we could finally get dark mode like some of NYT’s other apps.

When navigating a section (e.g. World), the website shows subsections (like Asia, Europe, etc) but not the app. Why is that? Searching for. Subsection specific news is not scalable and limits the usability of the app compared to the website.

I wish it had dark mode. Can’t read with the bightness in the evening.

We subscribe to home delivery of the print copy of the paper by I also want to read the paper on my phone. I have changed my password and deleted the old app. Now I can’t put the current app on my phone. Arrrgh!!!

Why isn’t there a way to directly return to the front page? In many cases, I have to hit the back button many times to get to a page that has the option to look at the front page and section.

Fine app but it really needs a dark mode. I dislike using it at night or in the early morning just for that reason. Every other decent news app has a dark mode.

The new keyboard in the mini crossword is almost unusable.

There is no dark mode. A feature that every app needs

Allow for user to select at will or follow user system selection for Dark Mode / Night Mode Interface is otherwise good with font, font size, and navigation. Content is top notch.

The New York Times app crashes often on my iPad Air 2. It shouldn’t crash, even if it’s slow on older hardware.

Have subscribed for years but recent problems with app loading to point it won’t open at all today.

I genuinely like this app and the content it provides. However, it lacks a night mode which every other major news app on my phone offers. I find I don’t use the App at night because of this.

My aspirations to read the news at the end of the day are snuffed by the bright eyesore of my screen. Please add dark mode so that I can read in comfort.

Frozen upon opening. Eventually begins to move again. Perhaps due to embedded video? Nice layout though. Easy to navigate.

I love the news quizzes that really work to keep me updated. Overall a very good news app.

The app is fine, but I prefer the layout of the web site. Unfortunately, the web site shows ads even for subscribers. I would like to see the web site layout available in the app without ads.
