This app will give you a lot of info on the lay of the land. The only caveat I have is the camera button placement. I would like to use my right hand index finger at the upper right hand corner with a decent size button and right underneath it the zoom button. At the moment I have to search for it which in turn disrupts the photo.
What a great tool!
This is a very handy app. My only issue with it is , it doesn’t have a setting fo Deg. Min. Sec. For angular measurements. Military (mils) are not used on the large percentage of maps. Other than that it is a great app.
This is the most accurate app I use for alt and direction.
A valuable tool for determining slope angles, location and the new AI feature that highlights the mountain names we can see here in Colorado while I guide backcountry skiing and ice climbing is a huge bonus.
used for many years in construction admin … highly recommended for location data in pix form … fast/quick … pix or vid and send … done
I have used Theodolite to crosscheck compass accuracy in our Scout Troop. It is not only versatile, but accurate. It is very helpful when setting up compass training courses for our Scouts. As I have not used all the features, I am still learning how much it can do. Be Prepared
As a Location Scout in the Film Industry and an amateur Astronomer, I use Theodolite almost every day. Amazing & Reliable,... 'Absolutely love it!
We used Theodolite while responding to oil spills along the East Coast of Vancouver Island. The USCG DRAT from the 13th CG District introduced us to Theodolite and it’s powerful trig features using GPS, angles and calculated distances. The photo background is a great asset also. This app is very easy to use. With a little practice it becomes a powerful field tool.
This is one of the best apps I’ve ever owned.
Update. If I hated the iPhone, I’d buy a used one just to have this app. I use this when building antennas, and any structure to check for plumb, level and height. On the range for distances when initially zeroing a rifle scope.
Great app! With the extra peaks, it adds a great layer for fun.
Really good. One question: is it possible to prevent app from hijacking audio? Found no way to use app while listening to audio (podcasts, music, etc).
Update: 9.0.3 fixed the problem - impressive prompt response by the developer. Back to 5 stars. Still works under iOS 17 on 13 Pro Max, but strange display text overwriting artifacts make some of the data fields difficult to read.
Use this at your site visits to document local coordinates and local level. Would be quite adequate for site photos. Predict sun position.
Back when I worked disaster recovery for the State, I used this extensively to document damaged infrastructure (roads, bridges, water treatment plants, etc) damaged by natural disasters. We could document the exact location of damage and take after-photos to show the damage had been repaired.
This app has so many uses. I was able to develop a horizon image for use in my Astronomy program. I was also able to determine various angles as I use them around the house to build…and so many more uses.
Do note that the iPhone compass is not that great so heading is pretty sketchy but I don’t think they can do anything about that. Vertical angle is more accurate, I’d guess only to within 0.5° at best. Movement (accelerations, not speed) will also affect your readings.
Outstanding tool! Great for criminal investigation.👍
I’ve had that app and it’s companions for several years and have seen new features added over time. One suggestion would be to add HAM Radio repeater locations and mark them like hilltops are marked.
I use Theodolite for Search and Rescue. It makes transmitting geo locations very easy. The information I need is all readily available, allowing me to transmit in multiple formats as well. With cell tower connection one photo being sent takes out any possibility for error. I can also use it to get an estimate of slope for potential avalanche danger. Very well made app.

I love it, nothing more else I need to say.. One thing to alert developers, I'm on an iPhone 6 and if I'm in the middle of a call and open the app, the view freezes to one frame. The buttons still work and it'll take a picture of where ever you point it but the picture is static
Excellent documentation tool
Great app, I use it to mark location.
If you love tinkering with compasses and stuff you’ll love the functionality of this app.
Great app with both practical and entertainment value. Updates make this app even better with triple camera and distance features!!
Nothing worse than paying for an app and then they just forget about updating it to the new IOS. Glitchy AF with the new update. Horrible! Don’t install until they remedy it. Must be covid. I’ll gladly change my star rating once remedied.
Excellent job you guys! A lot of work was put into this app! I’ll write more later. I’m at work, using this app! Wow! Just wow!
App does just what I needed it to do. I collect fossils and geodes and this app accurately locates my finds and provides photos for use with others. It coincides with topographic map apps I use to locate samples in the same position format
GPS coordinates of the app on the photo and GPS and the phone are different why is that that’s not good I trust the phone over the app
A great app! A excellent tool for teaching and training.
App is built around “in the field” functionality and dedication to simplicity.
I have use this app for many years for a variety of activities and it’s done what I needed to do every time. It’s great that I can share what I’m seeing in a picture.
Well worth the price. Does everything you could ask of a Brunton Pocket Transit, plus gives lat/long data. Lots of options for saving photos too.
This has been a perfect app for wilderness exploration and trail work with my dog. Although she can't read the app she does follow my eyes and we do just fine. 👣 (I think she is part dragon) 🐲 tic (tongue in cheek).
This is a great app!!! Suggest that it be able to fully rotate display so that I can hold iPhone with any grip I want and not cover lens. Suggest that you have a photo review function within the app.
Please improve contrast in setting
I love this app. When will this be compatible with my VR headset?
I specifically have utilized Theodolite for many specific projects with the power company and pragmatically referencing its facilitation it is indispensable! Thank you folks.
An awesome APP that utilizes the power of the Smartphone to visualize real world grading, slopes, and general topography in a snap.
Use this app all the time. Very nice.
Had an issue and customer service got back to me in hours and helped me resolve the issue.
Don’t buy a theodolite, this app does it all.
