Vinegar - Tube Cleaner App Reviews

This is a very useful app for saving data when streaming YouTube as audio only, which is great for long story/podcast format videos. Rather than using up 200MB+ of dat per video, using audio only uses up about 25MB only. Currently switching between audio and video is buggy, where the video doesn't always come back and safari needs to be restarted. At other times switching to audio makes the video options disappear. Hopefully this gets fixed soon. Otherwise a wonderful app!

Seems totally fine other than the volume resets, I perhaps when automatically switching quality. So if I crank down the volume on something it will, without intaction, suddenly go back to regular volume. Look forward to a fix!

Unfortunately, the "best" setting sometimes picks 1080p even when 4k is available. Manually picking 4k only works for a few minutes, then it goes back down to a lower resolution and the menu won't open anymore. Still a better experience than whatever abomination of a video player YouTube managed to build.

Does everyhing it says it will do except it blasts the volume even if you mute it. There's been no fix for this and no updates for months. So instead i'll switch to the browser Brave.. built in ad blocker and doesn't have the audio spiking issue.

I love this app. I have it on my Macbook, my iPhone, and my iPad. Finally (!) I can watch YouTube videos in peace without having to suffer through ads or rush to mute them every time they appear. And they appear a lot. Thank you, thank you, thank you. (Note: I have never had a problem with Vinegar and I have no connection to its developer.)

This is a great extension, I was hoping to use it to finally switch from Chrome full time, however it is just missing a few of the functions from Enhancer for Youtube, most notably the ability to automatically resize the video window to the current screen size and dim the background until you scroll down. Still great work, and a total game changer if you have always been a Safari user... just too much of a step backward if you are coming from Chrome using Youtube Enhancer.

Even though my Roku TV has a YouTube app, I much prefer using this extension on my iPhone, and then casting the video via Airplay to watch on my TV. It’s a real timesaver… If you know what I mean.

I have my video settings at best,yet it doesn’t seem to improve picture clarity? Thanks for your help!

Gets out of the way and just works. Love the new 'theater' mode. Strong recommend!

Would be even greater if playback speed could be also set in the settings.

I’m tryna save money so I can’t get YT premium but this is very very good. Just keep in mind it doesn’t work with dynamic island very good (it’s a little spotty) and it won’t work if you try to use it with a YouTube web clip. Other than that it’s great! Thanks man for saving me a crap ton of money! Love it

Bless you for making this. I am so frustrated with youtube for intentionally breaking iOS PIP, but this app brings redemption! I will use it and love it until the day youtube nerfs it.

I prefer to use the YouTube mobile site for a number of reasons. To encourage you to use the YouTube app however, Google artificially hamstrings YouTube in Safari. Vinegar fixes this completely. THANK YOU dev!

Extension is great. One piece of feedback is the video stops playing when you exit player. I would prefer it stay on, otherwise perfect.

This extension has been awesome for me for a while. But I have noticed it only works for me on WiFi. When I’m on cellular, videos won’t load at all. I can go to the YouTube app and watch no problem, but YouTube on safari won’t play videos. Again. It’s not a problem on WiFi. Hoping to have the devs patch this. [EDIT] Thanks to the DEVS. It was a settings issue. I can now watch videos anywhere I want, no ads. Love this app.

Can’t exit full screen after entering it. Have to force close safari

This a great app! Works as promised! No ads, casts to Apple TV with ease! *Developer* The previous version you had out worked great on my iPhone XS Max for watching videos in 720hd+ the most I can watch quality is 360 on YouTube. Could you make a fix pretty please?

See title. Not sure how long it will last, but — as of right now — no video ads, before, during or — in the form of clickable next videos — at the end of the videos. It's basically your iPhone video player brought onto Mac minus any video ads. Couldn't have wished for better. Thank you good people, thank you!

I love how well this the app works to create a better YouTube experience in Safari. Overall it does exactly what I’m looking for. My ONLY complaint is that the “auto play” control for YouTube is no longer visible when the extension is active, and it seems as though YouTube uses that as an opportunity to default to auto play being on. If that could be fixed (or perhaps I’m missing something) it would be perfect.

Quite possibly the best $2 I’ve ever spent in my 26 years on earth. Hassle free, no ads and safe.

Wow, a lot of small quality-of-life improvements since the last time I used Vinegar! Theater mode, keyboard bindings, etc. Really, really well done. This is an excellent replacement to the YouTube player -- great work!

Not only does Vinegar eliminate adverts, it greatly reduces the battery drain caused by the native Safari video player. Worth it alone for the increased battery life.

Well worth the money, but I guess the tougher thing is to maintain the functionalities while youtube changes its frontend.

I missed to enable the extension while in the safari app (not just in settings!), can you please add that to the instructions? As someone who’s never used an extension before this would be helpful. After this the app works as promised, thanks!

Best money I’ve spent all year. YouTube is an actual website I can visit now instead of always trying to avoid due to the endless ads.

Works great really like this extension. Only thing needs to be fixes the resume from a video you started watching always restarts when you go back to it and doesn’t pick up from where you stopped

Makes pip work reliably, and dev puts our regular patches/improvements.

If you prefer to watch videos at faster speeds or certain resolutions you’ll have to choose them for every video. Edit: Dev helped me find the controls

When pasting a timestamped YouTube video into Safari, it doesn’t begin playback from that timestamp. It freezes and eventually ends up starting playback from the beginning. Otherwise, great app!

As a long time user of Android I appreciate the Versatility of Vinegar Safari extension. I can enjoy YouTube without pesky ads, as if, I had an ad blocker installed. The simple things us Android users take for granted. So, thanks to the Dev(s)

Not only does it do exactly what it says to get around the 720p youtube cap and kill ads, it also circumvents the 480p streaming cap over cellular from my carrier.

This is worth every penny. Being able to use PIP and play audio with the screen off… Awesome, absolutely awesome. Thank you. You all are a blessing.
